    A little baseball & a little track

Shot a middle school track meet this last Saturday and then my nephew's baseball game afterwards. Here are a couple of my favorite shots.

    This is my nephew.

these are awesome jim! well done. that second to last one is one you definitely don't see every day! for the high jump, try shooting from the other side of the bar and you will see the face. Well done though, these are very good. Were these shot recently?

Great job on these Jim. I like the lone relay runner because of the catch of the odd angle on the foot and leg and the last one of the pitcher great expression and arm action. Nice work all around.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Thanks, as for the high jumper I wanted to shoot with the sun at my back. I was there to shoot a paticular middle school I shoot sports for. Normally I would have preferred to shoot from the other side but the sun was very low and harsh. These were taken around 8am. They were all taken this last Saturday (12/2).

Thanks OT. The school I was shooting for did a great job in the both the field and track events. As you can see in the lone relay shot she had a pretty good lead on the other runners as she hit the finish line. The picture of the pitcher is my nephew. I went to watch my two nephew, both playing on different high school teams playing against each other for the first time ever. They have played baseball together for a very long time and this is the first time they played against each other. I didn't get any good action shots of my other nephew.

ah, alright, very understandable. i didn't notice they were front-lit, so backlighting would have mad that shot a lot more challenging. something to try, if you have some free shooting time, would be actually backlighting the jumper, and hide the sun behind her somewhere. pop off your flash as fill to help get the details, and you'll notice a warm glow around her. Again, just something to try if you've got some free time. Very nice shots though, and i echo the comment about the isolated runner, just dodge a bit of the side of the face to bring out some more details.

I asked because I'm surprised your area is already into baseball and track. are these fall specialty teams? Interested to know.

I'll have to try out the technique you described next Saturday, which is when their having their league meet.

The middle schools out here switch boys and girls track every year. Now the girls have track and the boys have basketball. Shortly after those is when the boys will have track and the girls will have basketball. I think the middle school are done in advance so not to interfer with high school track meets, not sure though.

I'll try the dodge and see how it looks but I rather like the look of the shadow. Thanks again.

Thanks JETA, my nephew and my sister are always pleased with the shots they get. I guess it's a good thing for them to have a photographer in the family.
