Wink The Last of the Holiday Tournaments

And what a holiday BB season it was! Over a period of 5 different days (3 last week and 2 this week) I shot a total of 16 games. Many were good, a couple were great, but they were all a lot of time, work, and some fun in there too. This is kind of a warm up for the state tournaments in March.

    Camera Settings:
    ISO 800
    f2.8 (either with the 18-50 or 80-200)
    1/320 or 1/250 shutter
    AF-C using single spot
    Center Weighted Metering

    Flash:
2 Sunpak 383s mounted on hotshoe swivels attached with spring clamps to the railings 15 rows up and set on 1/2 power manual. Fired with Elinchrom Skyports.

Re: The Last of the Holiday Tournaments

I had some guy come up to me tonight whining about the strobes one photog was using and apparently he thought it was me using it to which I responded "do you see my flash?" and he said no, and I then pointed to my back pocket where my flash was.
I just got back from shooting the end of our county tourney, between that and the Hall of Fame games I shot 8 games in three days and I was originally scheduled for 3 but with the staff photographer out sick I got hammered. Funny though, one shot I wasn't even going to send in but did add at the last minute wound up on the front page of the paper!
Well now we can both relax

Yea, it's funny what the editors like sometimes. I've had shots run that were not the best ones in the group from a particular game. Although, in a small area like I live in sometimes it has as much to do with who the subject is as what they are doing in the photo.

True, in this one it was after the play, partly blocked by an official, and two girls on the floor. One of them who is throwing the ball away is the sister of a former standout player which is probably why they used it as she isn't too bad herself, she just doesn't work as hard game in and game out as her big sister. All total they ran 9 of 11 shots from the first night and the other two will be on the website. I'm just glad it's almost done with...

JSPhoto, how often do you use your 70-200 f/2.8 IS for basketball?

Thats all I use for BB, I travel light so to speak and only take another lens if I need team shots and thats normally the 50mm f1.8 for that.
