Talking It's Basketball Time in the Bluegrass!

Football is over here since neither of the HS made it past the first round in Regionals. But, the good news is that the Middle schools have started their BB season. My first roundball action this year. The paper is highly interested in MS ball right now since there aren't any other sports going on for the county teams. The HS season doesn't start until the first week of December. Not as challenging to shoot as football, but a lot warmer!

Nice job Daniel! You got some real pop in these. No learning curve for you making the switch from outdoor to indoor. You were dialed in the first time out. My daughter is a middle school basketball coach just south of Nashville and she won her first game of the season last night too. She call pretty excited right after the game. Now I have to get down there and get some pictures for here.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

What strikes me most is the great color in these shots. Great job, Daniel.

Thanks guys! I think it's probably obvious that I shoot more BB than anything else. (after all this IS Kentucky) We have developed a great group of shooters in the time I've been involved with this group and will probably continue that as time goes on. I've learned from this group and others can do the same if they ask and are willing to try things that they may not be used to. How you get there is not nearly as important as the final result.

Nice work... Do you have a few wireless flashes set up in that gym? There are some pretty strong shadows from different directions, so I'm just curious. What ever you have for lighting, it's definitely working for you... These do have a lot of pop!

I'm going to drag my camera out to an indoor volleyball game tonight. Won't be shooting from very close, and there is a no-flash policy there, so not sure how my 80-200mm will do for me.. Should be fun to try though...

These were shot with 2 Sunpak 383 flash units set up 10 rows above the floor off of the corners of the court at the same end. They are manual at 1/2 power and aimed to cross about 10 feet above the free throw line.

Thanks for the info on the flash setup. Appears to work quite well!
