    Indoor track

Wow, what a nasty venue. I was in a high school's bubble tonight shooting a track meet. Granted, the indoor setting was nice but the lighting was absolutely horrible. It had a white top which was very dark since it was night. It had a few mercury vapor lights hanging down but the corners of the bubble where the field events were held were very dark. The ambient lighting at ISO 1600 at 2.8 gave me a shutter speed of 1/60 to 1/125. I used an onboard speed light at +3, bouncing it off the top of the dome with manual settings of ISO 1250 2.8 and 1/250. I wasn't real happy with my results but hey, we all have our bad days.

I like #1. The face shows the competition. The background looks like you were shooting in a cave. I have been in some pretty dark venues and this looks worse than those.

Looks like you really had to work to pull these out. Good job.

Hi, Newbie here. I saw this post and wanted to check it out. Reminds me of the days my daughter was on track ( some really depressing venues ) I like the expressions of the girls.

Nice action shots. I love shooting track but there are no indoor venues anywhere near me. When my son was running they won the State Indoor meet two times. That however was in Freedom Hall in Louisville and there was some pretty decent light. What you experienced is about the kind of reading I get in our local gym.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Your first image really rocks! Looks like you did really well in spite of the lighting conditions.

Thanks all for the kind words. I guess I got used to shooting basketball with strobes set up.

    These images are fascinating.

I hope that the athletes see these shots, to see how far they are from displaying good technique. As a professional sports person (still), I would have killed to see images like these when I was young.

    Your technique is unassailable. Congratulations.

    Warren.
