    IDM Championship

The IDM stands for Internationales Deutsches Motorrad meisterschaft.
It's a german championship which was held a couple of weekends ago.
I didn't know enough of this championship but the two days that I spent were fantastic.
The KTM RC8 R machines which are displayed in two pictures have a phenomenal sound in one part of the track where they crack the throttle full open my eardrums were almost torn apart.
Because of an other event near my home ( Dutch Championship Supermoto ) I only could spend 2 days in Assen @ the TT Circuit instead of three.
For me the IDM round was the first day I could test my new Nikkor 400mm lens and it felt very good

    Now three pictures.
With the 400mm I was able to stand on some other parts of the track so enjoy ;)

This is Dutch rider Bas Winkel who rides for a team that collects money for the cancer foundation a very good initiative.

Old MotoGP rider Jeremy McWilliams got to ride in the IDM Championship on one of the beautiful KTM's.

Stefan Nebel is one of the favourites in this competition together with Martin Bauer.
This picture was shot before they flick the machine right and then left and before they do that they're coming from the straight where they reach speeds above the 200 km/h and have to break really really hard ( I didn't get some bouncing rear wheels when they break a couple of meters earlier )

Beautiful! Technically perfect! You are the man! It's awesome to see these here. Fifteen years ago shooting roadracing was my very favorite. Thing. I don't ride or shoot the motos anymore. But I do still love a good roadracing photo.

One thing I want to point out to people is the blurred wheels. This is one of the things that sets the pros apart of from the amateurs with motorsports photography. If you use too high a shutter speed you freeze everything and the photo becomes too still - static - lifeless. Being able to find the right balance between a sharp subject but still showing wheelspin helps keep motorsports photos a live. And you'll notice every one of these has blur on the tires, wheels and rotors. The 400mm lens doesn't hurt, either

So can you give us some more technical details on these? I'd really like to know the shutter speeds.

    Thanks for sharing!

It's not just having blur, it's the right amount of blur.
Too much and you end up with a blurred background, sharp bike/rider and no spokes at all in the wheel - that doesn't look right either!
