I tried the 300mm from the penalty box

I didn't think I would do very well without the zoom. I have to say I am pleased with the results. Your help on how to improve with this lens would be great. Thanks for looking.

you did pretty well, i'd have to say! what 300 is it? Watch that horizon in #3, and #4 is out of focus, but they all have great exposure and color. well done!

Re: I tried the 300mm from the penalty box

I thought that would get brought up. I should have the red dasher board parallel with the frame of the photo. I thought #4 was out a tad bit. 2.8 300mm canon with a 1D mkIII. I tried to go high enough ISO on the camera speed so I could shoot at 3.2 instead of 2.8 to try and get a deeper field of focus. Thanks for the input.

Re: I tried the 300mm from the penalty box

I would have expected the 300mm to me too tight from the penalty box. But I think these look great. What ISO? The Mark III has great high ISO performance. I'd like to see some photos taken with the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 and the Canon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS. I love that Canon 28-300. But it might not work for indoor action like this.

As for the horizon, I would just say shoot a little loose and crop after. It's hard to keep the horizon straight for stuff like this. It's a little easier to give yourself a little room and fix it later. Of course, if you've got too much til you'll have to crop too much.

Nice samples. Thanks for sharing. Have you posted reviews for the gear you're using? I think I remember a 1D Mark III review from you

Re: I tried the 300mm from the penalty box

I think the 300 would be pretty good for hockey shooting from the penalty box and this shows it is. Not a bad start at all with that lens and the MKIII. As said before the color looks great.
