I Shoot Horizontal!

Well I should have said I shoot horizontal when I'm shooting the high jump.

Every one of these rock....yes it would have been nice to see the faces on all of these shots....but that is not controlable....

"Mommy Factor".....if I couldn't find one that showed my son's face....I would purchase any one of these....Excellent quality and sharpness....nice and close....

There you go, think outside the box ;) . These are great looking, I agree it would be great to get the faces but we are only can shoot what we are given.

Thanks Brian as you can see I changed positions for this shot and got the sun behind me. It made for better lighting on the subject but was much more difficult to get a face shot. Thus the late trip of the shutter on this one.

Betty you make another great point. Many times when I am shooting youth sports with sales in mind I will shoot what I would describe as static images. They may be of a fielder just getting into a defensive stance or a batter before the pitch is delivered. The purpose is to get a good face shoot of the kid. More times than not they will sell before the great action pic with the obscured face.

OT, I do the same thing, I just started this weekend a sales site, and when a batter gets up and gets in his or her stance....I snap a close up shot....then on to the action shot....even when they are running the bases....and they taking a lead off...I will get a shot before motion starts...

So I am glad to hear you say that, since I haven't sold anything yet....but at least my thoughts are correct in what to post....

I'm really glad you mentioned you shoot horizontal on the high jump. I have yet to shoot high jump and am completely clueless on many of the field events. Brendan has a track meet today that is only field events. I'm hoping to try my hand at some new things.

Thanks JETA. I even appreciated the left handed Nikon compliment. Doesn't matter what you shot with just learn your equipment and stay within the parameters that it limits you to.

Just as a side bar I was shooting into the sun on all but the last shot here so of course I metered for the exposure at the bar and set the exposure to manual. I just had to ignore the blown sky and hope to crop most of it out. I also was shooting with manual focus and prefocus on the bar. I shot from a lower angle to get a little more of a sense of height from the jumpers on all but the last image which was with the 300. I had already switched to another event and just caught this final jump from some distance away.
