    HS Volleyball Opener

A 3 games to 1 loss, but the volleyball season has started...

    2. Usually I crop the head on shots to the net instead of a full 'length' shot

Great set of shots! I admired your shots from last year, and you have inspired me to take more of the "through the net" shots...Alas, I fail miserably...There is a key element that I am missing- I'd say 80% of the time, I lose the focus to the net...any suggestions or hints?
    cheers,
    sue.

    Re: HS Volleyball Opener

Personally.. I think it's the 'AF-ON' button on the Canon that helps.. some people call it the 'back focus button' or use the * button and set a custom function... seems to really help with tracking for me anyway.. not sure how it relates in the Nikon world though.

I do believe it really helps to know the team you're shooting and what their game plans generally are, to know where the ball would end up.. the girl in the 3rd photo got 2 kills in the one (lost 3-1) game they won and because she never usually scores points, but plays defense as seen, I missed the shots of her on the offensive.

It could also be.. that I just get lucky? ;)

Great shots at the net. Volley ball is hard for me because of a real dungeon that our team plays in and my general lack of knowledge of the sport.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Re: HS Volleyball Opener

I'd never seen a match until last fall.. and I saw a LOT of it last year... and was asked to shoot it all of next summer from the 'Junior Olympics' coach.. bunch of teams at different ages and skill levels.. but that's next summer.
