it has begun (the hockey season, that is)

UNH had their first home exhibition game today, but lost to St. Francis Xavier 3-2. Nothing really special here, other than finally nailing the exposure dead on in the rink. Very pumped about that. the 1d actually handled the WB very well, and I didn't even have to custom.

and the tradition of throwing the fish onto the ice after UNH scores

Here's the exif for those interested.

Re: it has begun (the hockey season, that is)

"For almost 20 years the brothers of the Zeta Chi fraternity have thrown a large fish out onto the ice each time the UNH hockey team scores its first goal of a game. It symbolized, we are told, the need for the opposing goaltender to "fish" the puck out of his net.

Last month, the university ruled that since Zeta Chi isn’t a recognized fraternity it couldn’t participate in university-sponsored activities. That ruling blocked members of the fraternity from tossing marine life onto the ice; that task was assumed by the UNH athletic department.

The Zeta Chi brothers would not be deterred, however, and soon two fish came flying out of the stands each time the Wildcats scored their first goal: one thrown by the department and another by members of the fraternity.

Earlier this week the university announced the fish-throwing task would be left to the fraternity and the athletic department would bow out.

The reasons for the change of heart were not known. Perhaps it was, as Zeta Chi attorney Justin Nadeau contended, the university simply followed its policy of respecting student traditions or, maybe, it was the stench all this seafood was creating at the Whit.

Whatever the reason, it is good to see this tradition being kept alive, and we look forward to a season filled with fish on the ice at Wildcat games."

Super sharp! I really like the first one. I kept thinking I knew that Xavier player but I thought "no way". Sure enough that's Peter Flache! That's awesome. He's one of my favorites
