    Gymnastics Photos Help!!!!!!

I have recently purchased an Nikon 80-200 ed f-2.8. The camera is a d-80. I am having a really hard time getting non blurred photos. What am I not doing. The distance of the subject is as far as 100ft. The light is generally halide but sometimes flourecent. Should I shoot is a burst or a single shot? Any help would be appreciated. I am new to this.

    Thanks Ravelin:cryin:

If you've got any sample photos you could post, that would help.

my guess is they you don't have a fast enough shutter speed. To hand hold that lens when you're zoomed out all the way you'd want a shutter speed of about 1/250th or more.

If you can bring in a tripod and have it set up with your camera on it that would help as well.

    Re: Gymnastics Photos Help!!!!!!

Gymnastics is one of the worst things to shoot, mosrly due to the fact that the lighting is really bad. The only thing you can do is get an f1.8 lens, something like Canon 200mm f1.8 but they are not cheap, and I do not know if Nikon even makes one.
Anyway as stated post some examples, it will help us so we can see exactly what you are getting.

    Re: Gymnastics Photos Help!!!!!!

    Ravelin,

Gymnastics is VERY tough. Lighting is always a problem and it is almost impossible to get great angles. Tripods are hard to get set up with all the moving you need to do. Also you can NEVER use a flash (My wife did once in a meet and they stopped the WHOLE meet to "instruct" her).

I shoot in RAW format and use custom WB. I usually shoot about 1/250. ISO is usually up there too (800 - 1600). I also have a 70-200 f2.8 and a 24-75 f2.8. Bust is ok, but you have to know the kids and thier routines and get dialed in for the 1 chance you have for THE picture (a great release ect)..

As stated, post some pics and someone here can help....

    Good luck.....

    Phil
