    Good, bad....and ugly!

OK, yesterday was a good day, ordered all kinds of neat new toys

Today started great, finally found out the dealer had my 1D. Jumped in tha van, ran to the bank got my $$$ then drove 6 blocks to the dealer and got my 1D back. From there things went south. Driving I-70 towards home in early rushhour is bad enough. Add to it INDOT decides to be out painting the highway . Suddenly traffic flow goes from 70mph to ZERO. Everyone stops...duh. Folks they are painting one of 4 lanes, why do ALL 4 stop? We start to move and just as things get going .... the van dies! It's got gas, oil, water.... NEW battery, alternator and ignition coil... what NOW. To make it worse I couldn't get to right shoulder in all the traffic and had to go to the left shoulder While sitting there 18 police cars drove past... guess since I'm not a curvy blonde they don't need to go by their motto to "Protect and Serve". Instead five vehicles almost hit me After about 45 minutes my tow truck driver gets there and we get the thing to a safer area. Turns out I was right in my thought of what happened... darn catalytic converter plugged up. Oddly enough, last year my truck did the same thing in the exact same area!
Bad day getting better. My tow truck buddy gave me his wifes van to use so I could get my truck fixed... and now the van. So I finally get home and decide to check out the camera...I should have waited! Once out of the bag I take off the body cap only to see FINGER PRINTS on the mirror... WHAT, I can't believe this. I send the thing in clean it comes back like this.
Now the ugly.... my response in an email to Canon basicaly told them they are getting it back and THEY will pay shipping both ways and make sure I get the thing back clean. I also said they can pay me for the work I will miss until the unit is returned. I can't wait to hear their response tomorrow morning

Well, I did get the truck running.....
Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.

Seriously JS, you've been handed more crud then anyone should have over your D1. I know I can't drop the F bomb here, so I did it for you in the privacy of my home. Hope that made you feel a bit better. ;)

Things are only going to go up from here. You'll have your fixed camera all your new gear and I'll be sitting here whining about my lack of knowledge and sucky Rebel.

    Re: Good, bad....and ugly!

Man that was one of those if it can go wrong it will days. Hope every thing gets brighter and better when the new stuff arrives. I had a day similar this week when I was about 50 frames into a soccer game and I chimped for the first time and had a total white LCD screen. Yep you got it the dreaded D2H problem up and bit me. I only have about 3500 shutter releases on it. Bought it on August 16 and it went down on Oct. 3, not the best case senerio. Good new is I had the D70 with the 70-300 Sigma aready around my neck and just switched to it. At the half I checked out the D2h and found I shoot in manuel but with no meter function. So shot using the D70 meter the second half and still came up with some pretty decent images. Just telling you this story so you will know that all the bad luck didn't drop on you, some of us got a little of our own.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

OT.... That is a problem on those bodies. I know three shooters who the same thing happen at the Brickyard 400. And even more at the Indy 500. One guy bought his three days before the 500 and it did that the day before the 500. You would think they had figured it out by now and gotten a good fix for it.

Things are looling up... my new gear will get here Monday!!!

Cool! I know you can't wait.

The up side is when I called Nikon they didn't give me any grief. They had everything setup for this problem. Didn't ask if it was in warrenty or anything, just said to send it to them and they would take care of it.

Yup, they know it's a problem. Now how long will it take them to get it back to you? I heard they are running as long as 8 weeks behind on repairs.
Due to the number of these failures I'm thinking it's a design flaw.

Sorry to hear about this, good thing you have a backup though.
