    Girls Soccer

I am not real good at sports shooting but I am learning each time out. Some of these were with the a850 and some with a77, I think? My technique for what it is was picked up here from reading how everyone else does it. Freeze the action, ball in the shot ect, ect.

Great action for the age level you were shooting. Sports just takes a lot of reps to shot well just like it does to play well.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I never get the chance to shoot little ones in sports any more. So these make me smile and stick my bottom lip out all at once. So cute and so much fun. Thank you!

    Re: Girls Soccer

I have been shooting soccer since my kids were a little younger than the ones on the your photos. They are 15 and 18 now. At the end of the season, we give each of the kids on the team a few action shots. The kids and the parents really appreciate them.

Your photos are good and sharp and you've caught the action. They are fun!

    I'd suggest a few things:

    1. Get lower -- the kids being short and you being tall, you are shooting from above their heads. Eye level shots are generally more appealing.

    2. Crop for greater impact - if you cropped several of your shots into portrait mode, they would be ore powerful. You inevitably have kids on the periphery who end up looking a little like they are just standing there (even if they are not) and it takes away from the shot. In general, portrait-oriented (i.e., vertical) shots work best for most sports.

    3. Use a telephoto lens or setting rather than wide-angle -- again, it isolates the action.

Here's a thread I started a while back with some examples Some Terrestrial Stuff

The photos may give you some ideas, as well as the critiques.
