    Game Winner!!

Picture of the Iowa kicker celebrating after kicking a last second field goal to beat #3 Penn State.
    Shot at ISO 1600
    f/4.0
    1/125/sec

My question is should I crop to just show the kicker, or does the crowd add enough to the picture to leave them in?

They both work but I think the crowd adds much more to the story, if you got the front of the kicker it might be different

If you want the story in one shot, I'd say go with the crowd.
Well, in one shot without a caption you'd want the scoreboard, too

A photo of our living room, right after that kick would have shown a much different reaction...
    :cryin:

But it is a good shot; I might crop in closer under the kicker, but definitely leave the crowd in above him

I might crop a bit from the bottom but definitely think the crowd is as much of the image and story it tells as the kicker. Nice job capturing the moment.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I echo everyone else..... Some of the crowd is good here....

Nice catch... My heart dropped when he made it..... Not a PSU fan, but Big Ten fan and wanted to see a B10 team in national champ game...

    Nice work.....

Thanks for the feedback. I think just cropping out the field at the bottom of the picture makes the most sense as well.

Being a Hawk fan I was glad to see them win, but sad to knock the Big Ten out of the national championship game. Although the last 2 years the Big Ten has not made a very good showing in that game anyway, so it may have saved us from losing 3 years in a row.

    Re: Game Winner!!

Congrats on having the Featured Photo. I much prefer the one with the goal posts in the shot. While it's a bit confusing as to what is going on at the time, it tells more of a story than the cropped version IMO.

BTW, where are the other players? Did the kicker run forward as the ball was in the air and then fall to his knees as it went through the goal posts?

    Re: Game Winner!!

    Thanks Nikon Man.
He kicked the FG and then turned and ran back towards mid field and then slid for about 5 yards on his kness. So the kick was actually towards me. I would have loved to gotten his face, but I would have had to have been in a much different spot.

You can just see the shadow of the holder who was the first player to get to him, on the left side of the picture. Thanks Nikon Man.

I had one of him getting hugged by the holder as well, but I liked this one because of the solitude look yet with 70,000 fans in the stands. The kicker is an interesting story as he was 1 for 3 on the year and the last FG he made was in the first game of the year.

I also have a few pictures of the fans that stormed the field afterwards. It was a bit interesting as I wanted to get up higher to take a picture of the celebration, so I was going up into the stands (in the student section) as they were all storming the field.

    Nice job, Tom!
