a Few from Texas Motor Speedway

Finally made it inside the catch fence to shoot NASCAR. Here are a few of the shots that I took just for me ... (you know.. the ones the editor didn't want lol)
I had a lot of fun. Next race for me is Michigan in June for Trucks, Nationwide, and Cup... should be a fun 3 days.

Never cost me anything, however not sure what it cost the papers I shot for Most of what I did was at Indianapolis (500 and 400) and whatever they did I got fed too, some guys didn't get the free meal, or even access to the media center. I heard rumors that access to the turns and meals/media center was around $1500.It may be more now though.

it cost me 4 years of aggravation and a years worth of writing pre-race and post race articles for an automotive blog and convincing the editor that it was a good expense =)

After that they WANT the media in there so that they can have as much exposure as possible.

Nice set. Inside access is a beautiful thing. The only image that doesn't work 100% for me is the first one, only because the cars have more impact in my opinion, if they are entering the frame from the left as opposed to exiting which leaves the expanse of empty track behind them.
    It's not about the camera....

Very nice. I cannot even begin to imagine the patience that must have taken to get some of those shots.

Question.. did you follow the cars or did you lead the camera ahead of them? I assume you used auto-focus? What kind of lens did you use? Almost looks LensBaby-ish.

Re: a Few from Texas Motor Speedway

I lead the cars a little bit. I try to aim for the front bumper with the AF and follow the cars. Playing with shutter speeds between 1/40th up to 1/160th depending on how fast the cars are running. The faster cars vs. the slowest shutters produce the best blur and feel IMHO. The shots are fuzzy here but not when I look at the original. I blame the compression and size reduction for web sizing for the lens baby feel. I was using the Sigma 70 - 200 usually at ISO 200 and a high F stop... like F16 - 22 so that I can reduce the shutter speeds.
