    A few questions

I have a few questions about shooting outdoor sporting events. When I set my white balance, weather it be custom or one of the preset ones in the camera, does my relationship to the sun or time of day affect my white balance choise? Another words say I choose the sunny white balance, does shooting into the sun, having the sun at my back or to either side affect what white balance choise i've made? Same goes with time of day, do I need to adjust my white balance as the time of day changes? I know having clouds, sun or shade will make a differance but if its sunny all day I shouldnt need to adjust the white balance right?

Another question I have is taking photos in the woods. What I am primarily shooting is offroad motorcycle racing. So there are times I will be in the woods shooting. Would it be a good idea to use my sb900 flash? If so do you have any reccomended settings to use? Like what shutter speeds will I be able to use with the flash being that the atv/motorcycles will be moving pretty quick.

I shoot with Canon 1D cameras. Typically I let the camera choose WB. It is very accurate. If U have a newer Nikon i assume it would be the same. And yes the time of day will effect WB setting!

Depending on what camera U have and ISO U can get away with. Yes use flash especially in woods with MX type bikes. I try and keep shutter above 400 unless panning. Even 400 is on slow side.

How do I get the shutter speed that high? In shutter priority mode with the sb900 on, it only lets me go up to 200 on the camera. Am I missing something?

I know nothing about Nikons. Canon flashes have HIGH SPEED sync. Ur flash must have the same....look at video below!

If it real dark in there U can always go slow shutter with second shutter sync to give ghosting effects.
