    Easter Surfing

The sun finally came out and provided some good lighting. Hope you enjoy.

    Re: Easter Surfing

Looks like you've been having fun the past couple days - gettin lots of surfing shots in

My fav is #2, not sure why though. Maybe its because its more of the scenic surfing shot with a fair amount of background in it.

    Re: Easter Surfing

Yea yea, I'll be missing it this year

Keeping on topic, which lens were you using for those?

I've been able to keep some of the gear I've been using for my weekend job at my house, and I may try to swing up there sometime when I have the 400 F2.8 & the 2x to try my hand at some surfing shots

    Re: Easter Surfing

What no Otter? Ouch...I'll drink your share of the Sierra

I use mainly my 300 f2.8 IS with a 1.4 TC. I have an opportunity to trade my 300 for a 400 f2.8 without IS, I'm debating it, but I love my IS.

Actually, now that I think about it...all of those shots above are the 300+1.4TC.

A lot of people I know shooting surfing are using a 500 f4 or 600 f4 to shoot and get good close up captures.

How's that 400? Can you hand hold it and do you wish it had IS?

    Re: Easter Surfing

I've got a family get together this weekend up in Utah, so I'm flying out friday

I love using the 400. Its a tank, and I wouldn't want to hand hold it at all. Maybe I'm just a wuss, but that thing is heavy.

I've never used a lens with IS, so I wouldn't know how good it works

    Re: Easter Surfing

Maybe I'll see if I can try before I buy. The 400 + 1.4 would be killer for surf photos though. Really, I'd like to get an underwater housing and start some in the ocean shots. That would be great. I'm just not ready to make that purchase though.
