    Drifting in the rain.

Sorry SW no smoke.... but I've got water spray.

The day started out wet but by the end of the day the track was fine. These were from the morning practice sessions and qualifying.

I like that last one best because of the motion blur. One thing about car photos - it's really hard to make them look like something is actually happening. That's why we end up tilting them to give them a more dynamic feel. Motion blur, whether it be panning or just some sort of movement, often makes a huge difference.

    Re: Drifting in the rain.

That last one was my favourite for the day for sure. Is was shot during the parcatice before teh weather cleared up. There were not a lot of spectators so I had to work hard to find an acceptable background. The judges stand looked nice and bright against the dark skies with their fancy coats on up there lol.

Paning has definitely become the standard but those who do it well stand out the most. I have seen other shots with the shooter slowing the shutter as much as 1/30th and I aspire to achieve their skill.

Thanks for the comment PJ. It's always nice to hear a compliment from the captain of the ship

    Re: Drifting in the rain.

Water spray is good, although I don't like being in the rain (although after a weekend in Miami at 98F I may change my mind on that) the spray you get particularly in single seater racing can be better than tyre smoke.

I think the last one is the best, where you're slowing down the shutter and giving the impression of the car's movement as a result.

If you're going to pan at 1/30 then only show us the good ones
I throw away a lot at slow shutter speeds, more than I'd like to.
But if you don't push the boundaries, you don't get the special results.
And when you don't show your limitations people won't think you have any

Good shots; nice job finding angles that show how much the cars get out of line. Agreed that the panning shot is definitely the best. It should be easy to crop out the judges' bright coats if you feel like it.
