A couple from Qwest (Seahawk Stadium)

Our first game of the season was at Qwest. It was the worst lighting conditions I've ever experienced, so I wasn't going to post any of the game pics. lol I figured that isn't how I'm going to learn, so here are a couple.

My son (#71 blue) went up against the #1 TE/DE recruit in the nation and did an amazing job. First play of the game Brendan PANCAKED him! After the game #80 came up to him and shook his hand and told Brendan what a great job he did. I thought that was pretty cool.

Some of the photos are dark with a blue cast. The ones that are most rough are where there are strips of black shawdows and strips of the brightest sun going across the field length wise. When I lighten the shawdows it completely blows out the part in the sun.

I just asked the big guy. He said yes he does and it's totally legal to grab them there. He did however say he is blocking wrong and his head should be over at the right.

The lineman coach at the UofW taught him that.

Here is one I shot in the shawdows. She my blown out background?

Very nice JETA! If you watch much NFL I think you will see these kind of lighting conditions in many of the large stadiums. The TV guys have fits with it as well. Just have to try and pick your angles to minimize the effect as much as possible. Keep in mind that as a photographer you are know by what you show not by what you throw. You picked winners to show. (I've got tons of images that will never be shown.)
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    JETA,
You can fix that blue cast in PS, it just takes practice and patients, the latter I do not have much of

I'm awake lol, anyway JETA, you can fix that in camera too. On the MKIIN and I think the the III you have the WB button by the screen and the one below and left of the shutter button, press both at the same time and you can afjust the blue, green rtc.... to take care of the color cast

    Thank you so much OT.

After much frustration I did go over on our oppositions side of the field because they were in full sun and shooting into the shade worked a million times better. I appreciate your advice so much! Thank YOU!

Nice shots JETA. It can get rough when you have harsh shadows and bright sunlight all in the same shot, or when you have the action coming in / out of the shadows / light. I've always just fixed the color cast in photoshop but will have to try what JS suggested.

As for him holding the pad, my understanding is as long as they keep their hands inside the linemen will hold the shoulder pads (chest area) to better control the defensive player and not be called on it. My son does it quite often while blocking.

I have so much to learn. With ps I have an old bottom of the barrel version. I did remove the blue in most of the pics and that is what I got. I'm sure I can control the amount better then I did. I need a serious class in ps.

Hopefully, I'll have a little time today to read about about the setting you are talking about JS.

Thanks for all of the help as always. It's so nice that I always get different things to work on from you guys. Your advice and suggestions are invaluable to me.

    Jim & JETA,
I'd suggest going outside and playing more with various settings and seeing what they do. On the WB you use the little dial and large dial to change the individual sttings. If it goes to yellow your too warm, blue is too cool. The image below is too cool and the color temp needs to go hotter.
