This past fall I was asked by a friend, a private college advisor, to get some shots of one of her clients. No problem, since I was shooting the game anyway. I got a good shot of him running the ball and sent her the full res file without my embedded copyright data (I'm also a client). She proceeded to give them the file for Christmas. The player was just added to the ESPN National 150 list for the class of 2008, and ESPN is asking them for a photo. She called me and asked me about them giving ESPN this file for web use. I told her to HANG ON while I figure it out. I also shoot for MaxPreps, and MaxPreps is in partnership with ESPN. This past fall, ESPN was paying a $50 bounty, through MaxPreps, for images of players on their 150 list for the class of 2007. So, I know ESPN pays for these images. I am more concerned about having my copyright in the file and providing the proper field of use terms to ESPN. I suggested I would provide her with another image, properly copyrighted and licensed to ESPN for a specific field of use and period of time, and let it go. Or, should I contact ESPN directly.
Any ideas?
