Unhappy Can't print due to dimensions... anyway to edit ?

    Hi everyone...HELP...
So we have a new Canon S5 IS and I didn't realize that I had to check the resolution/dimensions in order to print. So what's happened is I've taken all these amazing hockey pictures of my son's team and we can't print them because they are 600x450. So I've now adjusted the settings on my camera so that it is larger and they can print from 8.5x11 down to 4x6 but is there anything I can do with the ones I've already taken besides printing them the size of a postage stamp ?
Does anyone have any suggestions ?
There are some really good ones and I wanted to give them as christmas/holiday presents to the other team-mates...Thanks ! May the newbie !

Try adjusting the page size in the print dialog box.

Re: Can't print due to dimensions... anyway to edit ?

Thanks ! I was sending them on-line to a couple printers and it wouldn't let me send due to the dimensions/size...message was that the dimensions would not work with picture size (4x6, 5x7 or 8.5x11).
So they will perhaps print at home on a home printer if adjust the page size then ?
Is there a way around that you know of to edit so I can send to an on-line printing company (eg. costco, henry's)

The only way I know of to do what you're wanting is to use Photoshop or something similar to upsample them to the desired size. I usually save at 300 ppi (not to be confused with dpi which is a resolution for printers) but even at 72 ppi they should print OK to about 8x10. This process completely resamples the image, not just enlarge it which simply makes the few pixels you have bigger.

Yup, they need to be resampled in a good photo editor software. They still may look a bit odd but should be pixelated.

There isn't much that you'll be able to do with that amount of pixels (even with some extreme re-sampling). Increase your camera to shoot at the highest quality and mark this one off as a learning experience. Most decent printers are 300 dpi (dots per inch) or above and with your 600 x 450 pixels that is only 2" x 1.5" at 300 dpi. Your camera is an 8 mega pixel unit correct? Set it up to use all 8 mp and you'll be able to print really large nice prints using the 3000x2200 (or so) pixels you get out of it.

I have a buddy that always carries his camera set at the lowest setting -- I could kill him sometimes. On particular mountain bike ride and he got a set of absolutely great shots of all the guys (perfect light, background, sky, and pose) and the shots are so low quality (640x480) that they are only good on small screens (forget about printing them). His shot of me is one of the only ones I've ever seen that looks pretty good!

mattbikeboy is right. at that size, there's not a whole lot you can do with them. you can resample, but you'll either get fuzzy images, or very pixelated images. Do yourself a favor and shoot at full res all the time. If you're running out of space on your computer you can always downres, but you can't upres. Better safe than sorry!
