    Basketball Morehead vs Murray

Murray State came into the game ranked #10 in the country, but my Morehead State Eagles gave them a real tussle until their two big guys fouled out late in the second half. Murray went on to win 66-60.

Nice batch of photos, Old Timer! What ISO and shutter speed were you using? These ones look a little softer than usual. But your timing and framing on most of them is great! I especially like the fifth photo. It's nice and tight on the player and has a real feel of focus and intensity.

Thanks PJ, ISO 3200 to 4000 at 1/500, f2.8 with both the 28-80 and 80-200. I was shooting with the D700 and the D7000.

Man, those are high ISO settings in my mind. But I don't shoot indoor sports. Thank God!

Do you think 1/500th is a little slow? Are you doing much post processing? If you aren't, maybe you could push the shutter speed a bit and then brighten them up a bit in post? Maybe you've already tried that. I don't know. It's just a thought. Basketball seems like such a tough sport to shoot. It's so fast and the light is just about as bad as it could possibly be. I don't envy you that particular challenge.

I am doing as much compromise with ISO and shutter speed as I am comfortable with. I try to do as little post as possible, a little levels and some contrast and unsharp mask. Would love to drop down to 1600 and be able to shoot a 1/1000 but it just isn't going to happen even in my best lighted gyms. Love to hear what others are doing to combat these dungeons short of strobing them.

Just installed Neat Image and hope it will help me combat the high ISO problem of noise. We'll see.
