    Basketball at ISO 4000

Yeah you heard me right ISO 4000. My home gym is a dungeon at its best. I took the D700 to the first girls home game tonight. Here are a few shot at ISO 400, 1/250 at f2.8 all with the AF-S 28-70.

Lookin Good! The dominant yellow in the gym really makes a WB tough though. Were you using a preset or Custom? But the 700 really comes through in a pinch.

I'm still impressed with this D700, man it gives you great color with a high ISO, crisp and I'm guessing you didn't use Neat Image on these either. Along with getting great shots by the photographer ;)

    Re: Basketball at ISO 4000

Thanks Guys! Yeah that yellow is a killer. I went both ways on the WB. Never did get it dialed in and it was changing from location to location in the gym. Chris I did give these a small dose of Neat Image.

Just as a comparison here is what I got last year when I tried to shoot available light in the same gym. I think the difference made the purchase well worth the money.

OT....I love these. Nice color and great action. New camera is very impressive, but I know that the photographer has something to do with it.

Does anyone know how a Canon MKIII would stack up for high ISO to the D700?

I may have to re-think my future.

If I can only hit the lotto..

    Nice job.

Thanks Brad and Phil for the looks and the comments. I really didn't realize how much better the D700 was till I pulled up a couple from last year. I usually used some addition flash at that gym but on that night I vowed to shoot available for the whole game and you see what happened.

Thanks Jim. I very anxious to give this camera a good work out. Very pleased so far but I have a lot more to learn about it.

So what did you use last year, Old Timer, ISO, shutter speed and apertures if you still remember?

Nice shots OT, I like all except for the last one. The color's pretty funky and the noise reduction is a bit much. The other ones are post processed very nicely though, and that d700 really does handle those higher ISOs very well.

The yellow in that gym especially in the paint area with the reflection is hard to handle for me. I just got Neat Image for Christmas and am still learning to make it look natural. Thanks for the look and the comment Brent.

    Hi OT and happy holidays!

I totally forgot about your new purchase. WOW! You have to be thrilled with it's performance. Great action and clarity.

Are these cropped at all? Just curious about the processing and if you see the noise pop up at all when you do process.

    Great work as always OT!

    Re: Basketball at ISO 4000

JETA I will rarely have any image that I don't crop a little. If a photographer can always frame fast moving objects or athletes in this case without getting a little to much space on one side or the other they are better than I am. I try to stay as tight as I can but I will generally get a little ahead of the action or a tad behind so I'll crop out the unwanted area. As for the noise at 4000 ISO with this camera it was less than I had at 800 or a 1000 ISO with the D2h or the D200. I did apply a small amount of reduction with Neat Image but in most image not that much. I was very pleased with the results.

    Thanks for answering my questions.

The reason I asked about the cropping was I thought you might have left them ff to show the low iso results.

I know it's a rare occasion that I don't crop. Very rare indeed.

Since these are cropped I find your iso results even more exciting!
