Been workin on learning how to take action shots. What do you guys think?

Now some motocross. How's the exposer, color and sharpness?????????

I like the 3rd one in this set the best. Color and sharpness look pretty good. But I think your crops are a bit weird. To a lot of people cropping close on sports is #1. But I think for action sports it is a bit different. If you don't show the context of the shot, the shot is lost. Say you had some dude doing some 100ft gap jump. And you zoom in and just show the guy in the air. It might look great. Guy flying in the air perfect sharpness and exposure. But whole shot is lost. He could be flying off a 4ft bump. You need to see the gap too.

So to me the 3rd one is cool because you see the rider, the quad and you see the nicely separated background. And you do see a little roost. Roost is cool. You could have had a bit more in the frame and it would have worked great.

Thanks for the advise, I will try not to be so tight next and see how it looks. I always thought the tighter the better because that way u get to see a close up of the rider and the quad with good detail but next time ill try it the other way....thanks.

I concur with zerodog. I am not a fan of the tight cropping. I have no idea in these shots if they are just riding around on flat ground (doubtful) or if there are banked tracks/jumps etc they have to deal with. You can certainly shoot some really tight for detail shots but i would expect to see those only after you've set the scene with a wider look at the track and racers.

The colors look good, the action looks sharp. Try to add some more context and change up your perspective if you can. Find a hill and shoot down. Shoot across the track, vary it a bit.

Don't get me wrong. Close is good. But too close and you loose your perspective. But it depends on the shot too. You can make something that is boring look cool getting close too. It makes things look more intense.

i would totally agree in a case where you could get a good look at their eyes, but in these they are mostly wearing goggles with the silver on them.

good comments above. i would totally love the last one if the tires werent cut off. it has great light and exposure and some blur in the wheels.
