then the volleyball game. As much as I hate the lighting in this gym, i managed to pull out a few good shots.
great butt
favorite shot of the night
even though the ball isnt in the shot, I like it a lot anyways. Even if the foot and hand are cut off. Ok, so it's a horrible fundamental shot, but the motion is great.
Not bad livin4lax09, ummm, I did notice one little problem though.... where is the ball in #3? Other than that great job, crops look good. Color appears off a tad in the volleyball shots, possibly WB off a tad or I am just seeing things, different monitors will do that though too.
Deffinately looks like ya had fun.... explains where ya been hiding too.

I love, love, LOVE the shots of number 14 and the girl in black and yellow.
Did JS see your favorite shot? If not quickly paste in a ball b4 he does.
It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

are we not seeing my comment below the pic? That's not cropped at all, only sharpened, WB, and ND. wish I had gotten the ball. Maybe I'll just throw one in there. :-D

Sorry liven... I am a real stickler when it comes to sports that require a ball. puck, birdie (lol) and show action and no ball. I guess that comes from the paper and parents who want that lil ole thing in the shot or it just doesn't really show anything.
About the only action the paper allows us not to show a ball is when it's linemen that are the subject. Or shots showing big plays, blown plays, big wins... defeat as in in the one below.
I actually got one in the paper last night with no ball... it was an after game shot as the Sr RB looks at the scoreboard without his helmet on and two teammates holding their heads almost kneeling. Powerful shot... the kid probably wants to kill me now though.
yeah, its definitely not a publish-worthy shot, but I think it's fun anyways. By the way, i forgot to mention that the volleyball pics were shot on ISO 3200. I think I did a pretty good job cleaning them up.

Totally fun and I think it is a great shot!
What are you using to clean up your shots? I would have never known you used a high iso like that. What camera are you using?

Ahhhh, that explains a lot then.... 3200! Well you did do a very good job cleaning them up, and the color issues I was seeing is due to the 3200. I don't know why but it affects the color slightly and thats what I was seeing.... just didn't seem right, especially for you and had me
its' great, except for the whole not being able to runt hem through fully unless they're no bigger than 1024 pix wide. I'm just cheap and refuse to pay money for a plugin. I'm finally beginning to learn how to tweak the images to my liking. yeah, 3200 does do something funky to the color. Just like the photos I took today, at swimming. I can't believe I was complaining about the lighting in the gym. I feel like I'm standing on the sun when im in the gym now, compared to the pool. Shooting ISO 3200, f/2.8, and underexposing at 320. WB off too. I need to get rid of this 300d and get something to manually set wb temp. It annoys me. oh well. here's some shots. my favorite is the third shot. I may have oversharpened these suckers a bit
oh yeah, and I finally got a couple more batteries. Now I can make use of my battery pack, instead of just having 1 battery in it. Also, what do you think about the 50mm f/1.8? I'm going to be shooting bball from right under the hoop, and I hate the flash look. Think I should go for it? It's actually pretty cheap.
Oh yeah, swimming the ONLY place I found descent to shoot swimming is at IUPUI in Indy.... great lighting there, but they do the NCAA Finals every year. Lighting for shooting swiming is normally bad, don't know why but they must think it "looks" fine when it really bites.
As for the 50mm 1.8, heck yeah, it's cheap and a very good lens. I tend to shoot at so many differnt gyms from well lite to dungeons I should probably get one myself. The best though are where you can shoot from above through the glass, got some neat stuff last year doing that.
One thing that may help you gain a stop shooting in dark gyms... get up high, use the reflection off the floor. I do this a lot at some gyms, and with my f2.8 I can get 2 stops by going up high. I have to crop the heck out of them for the paper but thats OK, the press never knows, and it doesn't look bad in newsprint cropping a lot.
You definately had a busy weekend! ... I sat home Sat and today taking it easy, recovering from the last three weeks. I don't have anything now til Saturday for the IU Minnesota football game. Then Sunday I got to Anderson University to visit a friends daughter and her parents Things get busy again the following Wednesday as basketball starts here
