    Ahhhh A Little Afternoon Football

It's rare for me to shoot football in daylight this time of year, but the freshmen had a game this afternoon early enough to get a few in.

Re: Ahhhh A Little Afternoon Football

Bungendore is a small country town in SE Oz. They celebrated the hundredth year of their Rugby League team the Tigers, in the 100th year of Australian Rugby League.

Before the main game there was an old boys game. Played against a team called the Woden Rams. They are still the same guys that I remember, and the spirit was still the same ... but talk about being slow. It was like walk up to each other and just fall over. 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off the field was far too long.

Since this thread is a "Arrrrh Little Afternoon Football", it was a nice little afternoon of football ... we lost 13-0, and went straight to the Bungendore pub. We didn't stay for the main game we lacked the stamina and it was too hot.

If you think the camera was on the field during the game? ... you might just be right. No one cared and for once the Canon S75 wide ange worked. The guy in white (above) was the referee. why he was in involved in the takle still has me somewhat puzzelled, Maybe it was a rush of blood.

I went to the game with my friend Tom Hohoi who is an ex Papua New Guinea international.

The ground at Bubgendore was like concrete, and very basic. Nothing has changed in the last 20 years except that the goal posts are more rusty.

The oldest player was 65 and I'm guessing the average age of the players was somewhere between to 45-50.

I don't think that I have enjoyed a game of football as much as I enjoyed this day. After driving back to Canberra, my wife Helen who declined to attend the game and who thought I was silly for going, was happy to see me walking through the door ... I think that surprised her. Girls always fear the worst. I enjoyed this afternoon of football.

Nice shots Daniel, our freshmen and JV teams all start at 3pm, which is great. What time do your freshmen and JV games usually start?

They get going at 6:00 PM which gives you about an hour of ambient before the fill flash starts. Then about another half hour before flash is a necessity for anything printable. For the newspaper, good contrast and color saturation show well even if the shot ends up printed in B/W.

Nice shots Daniel. Sure is nice to get a little daylight to shot this sport in even if it means shooting at a little lower level of competition. Our JV and lower teams generally start at 6:00 pm that gives you at least a half of action to fire away and not worry about slow shutter speeds.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Thanks Larry. The flash sync is one of the main reasons I have stayed with the D70/D50 bodies all this time. My sync speed is not limited when using flash with these cameras. At night I use 1/400 to 1/500 with flash for football. Really nice for basketball too.

I have to admit I didn't know that about the D70 body. I'll have to start reading the manuals a little closer.
