Ever find yourself counting the hours and minutes, or get nervous or antsy before heading off to shoot an event? I have been doing this long enough I should know better, but for some reason when I am hours away from a job I get a bit antsy to get it on and get it done.Tonight it's high school football playoffs, tomorrow soccer championship finals...I'm more worried about tonight, maybe because I know the kids in tonights game, and don't know any of them in tomorrows games.
So right now I'm counting the hours and minutes before I have to perform, hoping to catch the miracle play that sends the team I'm shooting forward in the playoffs, and hopefully no tearfull photos of a devastating loss to an underdog team. Hey, they played three weeks ago on the same field (as visitors) and ran off with a 47-0 win, yet last week the opposition survived game 1 of the playoffs whipping an opponent 36-0. Game one between these two rivals was an odd affair, no one ever winning by more than 10 points before.
Now time for last minute camera and lens checks, I have to make sure the backup camera is ready to go too, everything needs to be cleaned, all settings ready to go.
Oh, one of my "tricks" is that each time I shoot at a different location I write down all the settings in a notebook under the school or locations name, then when I go there to shoot I check the book to see what settings I need for that schools gym, football field, baseball field, soccer field, aux gym, swimming pool etc. The same goes for race tracks, thats in the "track book". Day/night, settings for each turn, victory lane, pit road. Even have a book for shooting things at the RCA Dome, Conseco Field House, where ever, whatever, if I sjhoot there the settings are in a book ready for a moments notice to go there and shoot. I even have different setting for each lens.... a lot more to being prepared to shoot and actually going out to do it.

the favored team lost 18-14.... and I got a very few sullen photos after the game. The paper ran one of a senior, helmet off standing looking at the scoreboard while two teammates react next to him. Another shot was really something, surprisd they didn't run it. The top junior running back was injured in the first series, two rushes 90 yards and out of the game. His older brother graduated last year and has done stats this year. When lil bro got hurt big bro spent the night consoling him. As the game ended I the two brothers, one sitting, one standing, with big bro givin lil bro a hug ... got both faces in the shot too... sports editor loved the shot but didn't have room for it with three games in the county.
