2010 Camera Of The Year - Sony A55

I picked the Sony Alpha SLT-A55. My mind was made up a long time ago but I was super busy and I wanted to give the community a chance to change my mind. They did not

2010 Camera Of The Year >>

I think the SLT cameras slipped under the average photographer's radar. But with the A55 and the NEX-5, 2010 was a big year for Sony and it looks like they plan for 2011 to be an even bigger year. Could this be the year they become a real threat to Nikon and Canon's lock on the digital SLR market? I would love that as it would mean better cameras for the rest of us. And I love how Sony is thinking ouside the box with camera design.

Re: 2010 Camera Of The Year - Sony A55

Have you seen the latest Sony tech rumor? Three sensors and ISO 918,200.

And the interview with the Sony exec?

    http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1294806676.html

And today's rumor - The NEX-7 (higher specced NEX), A77 (60D/D7000 level SLT) and a replacement for the A55 already!

The only reason that I can think of to replace the A55 is that they cannot make the sensors fast enough to supply it, the A580 and D7000.

Only rumors, but Sony is a fun place to be right now.

Btw - also a rumor about a Nikon mirrorless.

Carl, who runs that site, has been very negative for the last couple of years on the non-traditional path Sony has taken (i.e. - It isn't a Minolta. Their are some very bitter ex-Minoltians out there.). On various forums, lately, even he has gotten much less negative about the SLT. - TF

I like the pick for camera of the year. It definitely is making some people think twice about the technology in this area, and moving away from the standard SLR design...

As for Carl, he still fell in love with the a580, not SLT version of that camera. Haven't heard him so happy about a Sony product, um, ever?

Anyway, this definitely gives us a hint at whats to come from everyone in the camera field. Good times....
