    spam reporting

I've been reporting spam whenever I see it but often wonder if others have already reported it and whoever montoros it is getting overwhelmed with the reports.
Today I started replying to the spam, saying that I've reported it to save others from going through the trouble.
    Good idea or not?
If everyone did this it would save others and moderators a lot of time, me thinks.

Due to the fact I am retiered I usually check my E-mail and the Camera Dealer Feedback Forum several times a day so I haven't ever gotten more than two reports on the same thread. I imagine it would save multiple reports to the moderators that work and do not have as much free time as I do. I sure won't hurt anything if you do, Jeff

I just don't like letting the spammers know they got through by replying.

I agree with PAul and don't like letting them know they got through either but they can still see the amount of times it has been viewed and know it was looked at, Jeff

    Re: spam reporting

Perhaps there could be another little icon that shows up if the post has been reported as spam?

I really doubt they ever come back to see if there was a reply. They just put it up, hoping for hits to their sites.

    Re: spam reporting

    Good idea, Frog!

I think I'll start doing the same in order to help prevent Mods from being overloaded with reports, and also to discourage the spammers.

This will also save time for the rest of the members, since they don't have to report it again.

    Re: spam reporting

Perhaps dissabeling the report bad post icon once it has been reported would work? That way it can only be reported once, and there are no replies to the post.

If someone tried to report a post and it was disabled it could discourage them from trying the next time, Jeff

That's an even better idea, jorgemonkey!

And, maybe then have a "reported spam" icon/message show up near the post title, so this way visitors can be forewarned about its content - without actually clicking.

Hmm, Photojohn hasn't checked in here yet to let us know if anything is in the works.

He must be taking too much time snowboarding & playing in the mountains.

Well, AMDA, you've saved me from having to report several and I hope I've done the same for others.

May be the time to start going to admin approved registration. May make them take this site off their radar after a while if they cant even get to post anything.

They aren't spam bots, those are indexing for the search engines.

    Re: spam reporting

Another idea, maybe limit new members the ability to link until so many posts.

Another board I'm on has a new member forum that you have to introduce yourself before they let you in the regular forums. New users only see the new member area until let in. No posting links at all (including email) nor pics.
