    Spam is out of control!

I know this isn't new news, but I'm just curious what can/is being done regarding the flood of spammers we've recently had. It seems that many are being left unchecked for an unreasonably long time.

Yeah it looks like they do it on the weekends when most people may be out with family and can't keep them in check.

A way of nipping them in the butt (the spammers) is to just make more mods and give them the power to delete threads. problem solved. also, i dont remember, i've signed up a long time ago, but do you have the java encription thing that makes people type the word they see when signing up?

Liban I think something is in the works that will help. Just hang on. I know I have wore my clicking finger out in the Olympus forum. It almost got personal with one spammer.LOL

I would be willing to be a spam control Mod as long as I am given the authorization and tools to do the job. - Terry

I couldn't remember if a captua (or whatever they are) was used when I signed up...that would be one tactic. Even still, maybe a cap on the number of threads posted within a certain amount of time would at least slow down the traffic while not affecting legit members.

    the spammers keep me busy!
I have one day sick, and it kind of piles up.
the drive-by spammers aren't much of a problem - individual mods can delete them and they don't clutter up the forum,
it's the automated bots that cause the big pile-ups, ones that post every day.

I know you are doing what you can to try and control this, but Liban is right, if I come here (like right now), and see spam completely across the board, I leave. I just don't feel like wading through all of the spam. I don't know what the difference is here but most sites I visit regularly don't have this kind of problem with spam, here it's become absolutely ridiculous recently.

Re: Spam is out of control!

Thanks for the feedback, guys. We have a forum upgrade in the works that should make a huge difference by not allowing new members to post links. Until then, please be patient and know that the moderators and I are working on the spam all the time. On a busy Holiday weekend like we just had it is going to be worse. I wasn't able to be on the computer much at all to manage it. I just spent about an hour deleting and banning and I think it's pretty much all undr control for the moment.
