What constitutes as 'Photo of the day'? How is it selected?

One of mine apparently was POD but I was completely unaware. Just wondered.

That's a good question. The Photo of the Day is chosen by a gallery script, based on the number of views and comments and some other criteria. The Photo of the Day is posted on the Home page. We should have a system in place to inform the photographer and maybe archive the POD images. I'll put those on my list of things to do
