FWIW... At school, IE and plug-ins are locked up, its the only choice. At home, I use Firefox and Opera which don't have that problem. Yeah, IE stinks. I've never used Safari.

    Monitor Resolution?

    Liz-
What resolution are you running your monitor at? Is it at 600x800? The design is supposed to work at 600x800 but I just checked and it looks like it's about 40 pixels too wide.

    Re: Monitor Resolution?

John, I did mention above with my screen shot that it looked like the size was hard coded at 846 wide, which is similar to your question to Liz.

    Yeah

    Peter-
I misunderstood the problem. I assumed the header was designed at 800 pixels, because that's how it was supposed to be. This is one of those things that's so basic it got missed, I think. We sized it to go to 100% on the forums - when someone is running larger resolution, which all of us at the office are. Anyway - now that the problem has been identified we can try to fix it. But I think it's going to be tricky. I looked at all the tables on the Home page and they're all hard coded for specific pixel dimensions. So changing the headed will mean changing the whole front page. But we'll figure something out. Thanks for your help and for initially bringing this to my attention. I'm sorry I didn't understand.

    Re: Yeah

That's OK John, it wasn't totally apparent either, I grabed the page and had a look in Dreamwaver which allows for the design layout to be looked at for column widths etc, as you would know I am sure. These things do get missed, especially in big projects like this one is.

It is interesting to watch the page as you shrink it with the edge of the browser on big screens and watch the text etc and graphics as they react to the page size width decreasing.

I would have thought though that the designers would have had the design window of the page set to display the 800 x 600 and then designed within that, one of the fall backs of having big screens, one tends to use the big screen size and forgetting about the actual wanted size. Which might have been the case.

Hey we all learn don't we. Take care and have a good night there on the West Coast.

    Cool New Icons...

I like the new icons...gives the site a little "pizzazz"!!! Great job team!!!!
One question...are u doing away with the "Report this thread" button??? If so, are we doing away with that function and leaving it to the moderators?? Just wondering.
    Ken

Nevermind on the report...just found it...the explanation point icon by the online/offline area.
Maybe an icon like the "Quote" button with a "Report" for those who don't use "roll over" popups on their browsers.

Re: New Design - What Do You Think?

    Hi there,
    I have a few questions:
    1. As I understand, now everyone unregistered user can upload the pics, post a comments and rate the photos in the gallery. Am I right?
    2. By chance I have posted the pic as unregistered user and now I can not delete it.
Can admin or moderators do it?

    Thank you.

Well, except for the fact that all the digital camera review links are broken, the site is fine. I haven't been able to read a single review for a week or more.

Re: New Design - What Do You Think?

Can you please be more specific? We have just made some major changes to our reviews section and have been doing extensive QA. I'm not aware of any broken links. Can you tell me more and give me me one of the links that's not working for you?

    Thanks-
    Photo-John

Re: New Design - What Do You Think?

    Hey PJ,

I was gonna mention that in a post when I had the time to write it out.

    Now's a good a time as any.

I was trying to find photos made with the Tamron 75-300 LD Macro and used the link in the gallery from one of my photos (the pull down box menu) and that went find, it showed all the photos.

I decided to look at the reviews and clicked that option from the pull-down menu.

I was taken to the version for the Nikon camera. I thought this was weird.

I then went to my profile to look at the reviews that way since I had written one for it. I clicked on show all reviews from my profile and it returned the 2 reviews I had done.

I then tried to read the full length review and that's where it linked again to the incorrect Nikon lens, which shows no reviews.

The *ist DL review link goes to the correct camera, but the specifications come up instead of the review making you click on the reviews tab to get to them.

Hope this sheds some light on the problem. I know how hard it is to maintain a code project of this magnitude and I don't envy you one bit!

Re: New Design - What Do You Think?

I haven’t spent a lot of time in the photography “Reviews” section, but I did make the following observations today.

I find the new film review section way too cluttered with Pro Pack/Multi Packaging items. Wouldn’t a review for a single roll of film be just as valid for the multi-pack and 100 ft rolls of the same film? Please don’t make me wade through all of those to find what I want.

Found the following site errors in the reviews section:

    Film>Negative>Fuji>120mm>100asa

Fujicolor Superia 100 120, 100 ASA (1010117) - This review has wrong product photo and user reviews are for some audio item.

    Film>Negative>Fuji>35mm>100asa

    Velvia ?

    Fuji CDU-II 135 (100 Sheets), 100 ASA (02501710) – 100Sheets?

Good luck sorting it all out.

Thanks, guys. I am 100% in agreement on both the Nikon-specific third-party lens review page and the film format issue. Neither are relevant when you're looking at reviews. It's a juggling act between shopping features and review relevancy. And we're working on it. As for the Nikon-specific third-party lens review page - the reviews themselves should be for all lenses, even though the page says it's for a Nikon lens. I had to associate the reviews with one of the lenses available and in the case of whatever lens you're looking at, it was a Nikon. I don't like it but it was what had to be done right now.

    Thanks!

The problem is, my review doesn't show up.

Re: New Design - What Do You Think?

    Hello Photo-John.....greetings from Los Angeles......
I have been away (started my own website, a weekly newspaper) since 2001 when your site was really picking up after becoming a regular contributor to your photo gallery back in those days.
Anyway, I'm back and am surprised at how much the site has grown and expanded under your direction. I visit the fredmiranda.com website once in a while and I can tell you that your website still rocks (and the pioneer too!)
It will take a while before I get used to the many changes on your site. And I'm happy you brought this site this far and am proud to say that, yes, I was one of those original, regular contributors to Photo-John's website! Keep up the good work!

    Sincerely yours,

Re: New Design - What Do You Think?

I wish I could delete a thread or reply I've made if it is no longer pertinent or if I said something stupid.
I posted a question in the imaging forum and wish I could remove it because I've found the answer and don't want people opening it and wasting their time on it.
I also wish there was a link to each forum on the left from within each forum and thread.
Just minor stuff compared to all the good stuff here and I'm really glad I found this place.
