This is very good, Larry. I like the strong contrasts here as well as the sharpness and detail. The angles of each spur going off in opposite directions is neat.
I would just crop up from the bottom slightly enough to get rid of that little extra bit coming inside the frame as well as a bit off the right side for that little piece too.
    Great

    Great

I see your point and do believe the next version will include your suggestion of a crop. Thanks for the look and the comment.

I agree with Gary, Tack sharp, great contrast and the shallow DoF really works very well here. Eliminate those 2 little distractions and I think you have a real winner!

    Re: On the Fence

Thanks for the observation jetrim. When I converted this image to b&w it seemed to all come together. Here is the revised version with the suggested crop.

Great shot, Larry. I could see this hanging on the wall in a bar or restaurant in Austin. I like the crop. I would consider taking a tiny bit off the right side too, but that's just my opinion.

Thanks Paul, it's great to hear from you. Strange you should mention Austin. I discussed going to Austin the next time I'm in Texas with my son just the other night. Hope to be able to make that side trip.

    Re: On the Fence

This throws me for a loop trying to figure it out. Not your normal post.

A shallow DOF can work wonders, but in this case I feel that there's too many areas where with blur, and that more of the subject should be sharp, e.g., the horizontal pole in the far right. Good choice of black and white.

Thanks for your input G. Not sure what my normal post is. I really try to do a variety of different types of photography but must admit macro is one of my favorite things to do. This was another photo of opportunity and was taken with an all purpose 24-120 VR 3.5-5.6 Nikkor lens. I was just hanging around the corral as my son and his wife were getting ready for a ride. I happened to notice she had hung her spurs on the fence while saddling her horse. I quickly racked the lens out to 120mm and fired of a couple of frames. This shot was at 1/400 at f10 and I was generally please with the DOF.

Love it. I like the DOF. Keeps my eye focused on the spur closest to me.

    Re: On the Fence

Thanks for the looks and the comments Greg and Ptax. I really was ready to discard this one until i gave it a try in B&W and it seemed to come together for me.

I glanced at your post half asleep and read your "Texas experiment" as "Texas Instruments." Indeed, they are. Great eye! Edit did the trick.
