Very nice! If we dont get the projected thunderstorms tonight.. I'm going to try. I've never shot fireworks before (haven't even been to see any in a very long time! I think the last time was when I was 18.. that was 7 yrs ago)

Re: 4th July Fireworks anyone else shoot any?

Good shots, the second one worked out to display the arrangements as shot? Or is it a multiple exposure? Nice captures incuding the smoke.

Did you use the Olympus 'Fireworks' mode or not? Haven't had the chance yet to go to a friends who I know used her Oly for the first time and see her photograph fireworks.

I doing the 'retro' things for the most part and have post in Film about shooting with Slide Film this year. This evening though or tomorrow (fireworks shows all week around these parts) I am going to shoot some digital as well.

Shoot, I am logged in as my brother.......................But it's me.

The second shot is a single and I had it on manual mode. I am not at home so I don't have the data.

Great shots Tyson! The first one captured the streamers very nicely.

Here are a few of my favorites from tonight. I hadn't really shot fireworks before, but I guess it's straightforward to a certain extent (okay okay it's actually harder than it looks ). You pick a shutter speed (most of these are around 3-7 seconds), set your ISO speed (400 gives you good results) and then your only variable is your apperture. I started with f/8 (which works for small explosions or one rocket) and stopped to f/22 when 20 or so went off at the same time. It's just a matter of flipping those dials in anticipation. Pan and tilt heads make your life A LOT easier than using a ballhead. I guess that's it. I still have a lot to learn (first one's a bit blurry) but I've decided shooting fireworks is fun.

    Shot with a D200 and Sigma 15-30mm.

    Great shots!

Well we headed out to the fireworks in a thunder/lightening storm and we really didn't think the fireworks were going to happen, but they did!

Some of my pictures; they kind of lost quality after uploading them.

    EDIT: Specs:
Fujifilm FinePix S2 Pro at 28mm, f/8, ISO 100, and the shutter speed was at 2 seconds.

I thought I'd give it a whirl and thought they aren't great they came out better than I thought they would except the ones that didn't. Here's one...too tired to mess with the rest.

Re: 4th July Fireworks anyone else shoot any?

Here is My 4th going in to Boston and the Charles River. with 500,000 of my best friends.

so First we parked over by Harvard University and rode our Bikes over,

first my Son Playing at Harvard with a lovely sunset

My Wife and Daughter on the Charles River Bike Path , as it goes under the BU Bridge

    I Think we found it

We Parked our bikes and made our selvs comfotable on the Mass ave. Bridge. near one of the Sound towers so we could hear the Pops and Music quite nicely.

The lights on the shore are over by the esplanade where the Pops Play ( With Some of Boston in the background)

Now on the Some of the Boom Booms I'd say we were about 400 YArds from the Barges that were Launcing the fire works

These were really cool they moved really slowed and went all different directions

    all the boats lined up

and the fianle !! It was huge!!!

Feel free to edit my Pics to show me how to make them Better.

Re: 4th July Fireworks anyone else shoot any?

So this year i was at virginia beach (the town not the actual beach) for the 4th. it wasn't quite as scenic of a forground as last year in downtown pittsburgh. but the fireworks (all private people, on a backed beach for as far as the eyes could see) where shooting off hundreds that just didn't stop. then after about an hour it rained.

this was hard because i was so close (to the ones we where shooting off) and so variable in height, that framing was really hard. towards the end, the ones we where shooting off, i would shoot as they shot out of tubes and then pan up as the exploded and a few turned out pretty neat.

these two i did that technique for.

heres a few lookign down the beach (notice all the fireworks in the distance...)

and my favorite of the night

no post editing to these all shot in manual (f8 most where 15 sec exposures, manual focus, most at 18 mm)

    I stink at fireworks..........absolutely reek.
I was having all kinds of trouble last night. Couldn't even get the remote to fire the shutter after a while. I don't know what my problem was. No idea. tried f/13, f/14, f/11......1.5 sec, 2 sec, 3 sec......nothing worked. I got so frustrated I packed up and went in the house.

Do you tihnk you can post something from last night? What equipment were you using? Maybe some of us can be of help. I actually find shooting fireworks to be pretty easy. WAY easier than events or portraits...

    I can't stand shooting people...

I almost skipped the fireworks last night. I had a headache and felt like I was going to throw up most of the night, but I managed to stick it out. The first half of the show I shot them using an old TLR, then switched to the DSLR when I burned though that roll of film. It was neat to be able to watch the fireworks going off on the ground glass of the TLR while the shutter was open. Not something you can do with the DSLR. Here are a few.

Here's one more I played around with, and added a few more burst too. I also changed the colors on a few of them.

Well I didn't make it out, but I did manage to take some from our balcony. Where I'm at I can see about 24 different suburbs fireworks (from a far distance) and ours, I'm about a mile away from.

This is what I managed to get.
