    A new toy!

I have been looking for an excuse to get the EF 50mm f/1.8 lens for a long time, and that day is finally here. When cr_mmurillo posted his for sale, I jumped on it. I got it today, just in time for a wedding I'm shooting in the morning. I took the lens out for a test drive after work for a few minutes and here are a couple of shots from it. I'm really looking forward to playing with this lens some more!

One great thing about 1.5x or 1.6x DSLR's is having a 50mm lens gives you the angle of view of about a 75mm lens (not the same thing, as we all know). Nice thing about this is that a 50 f1.4 or f1.8 is a very inexpensive lens compared to an 85 of the same aperture, they're tiny and light, and extremely sharp. I didn't use my 50 too often on my film SLR's but it gets a pretty good amount of use with the DSLR. The angle of view of a 50 on a film camera (or full frame DSLR for that matter) didn't do much for me in most cases but an 85 prime was really nice to use. With the DSLR, the 85 felt too long so I sold it recently.

    Good luck with the wedding!

Yes, I have this lense too It's a very good "Bang for the buck" lense. It's a Sharp, compact = walk around / do it all lense uses a 58mm filter. Quite a bargin.< $100.00  .
It works flawless on the D80. Check out my gallery for 4 recent photos using this lense.
Here is one test photo I took in Custom settings sRGB III mode.
