Re: Bored doing laundry.

I love the inference that this lady is the one open for business. Great eye.

Re: Bored doing laundry.

Hi,
I like this shot. The feeling is very 60s. Even the girl's face is very 60s. The tight cropping contrasts with the relaxing girl, which gives a feeling that she is a bit nervous or uncomfortable.

Re: Bored doing laundry.

Ha! Very nice kyle.

I like your composition and think you did a great job of exposing the mixed light. Best of all, I'm sure many can relate... We've been there and done that. Did you pose that person, or just see this composition?

Thanks for the comments, everybody!

Tim, I did pose her but she added her own little touch to it with her right arm hanging down like that. I didn't even realize she did that until after I looked at the shot later. I absolutley loved it. I was actually at the laundry mat shooting a photo story for my photog class. Thinking that will be the lead photo. Haha.

Re: Bored doing laundry.

Very pop-art, Kyle. A pleasing, thought provoking image. I do have a feeling, as I view the image, of wanting a little more space all the way around to help anchor everything, instead of feeling things are just little cut off...

Nice work.

Re: Bored doing laundry.

Great shot Kyle! I can't decide if she is relaxing because life is now so convenient that the laundrette is open 7 days a week or if she is perhaps exhausted because she is working there 7 days a week!! I think she must be exhausted because there is no way anyone could choose to relax on that bench!! Either way, the lighting is great, agree with the comments on the tight cropping, well done!

Re: Bored doing laundry.

Kyle,

I was thinking the same as Tuna that it looks as if it needs more space to the sides to anchor the lady and the chair - just feels a little claustraphobic.

I also think that a higher angle to get rid of that annoying fourescent light which meets the NOW just to get a bit more separation would be nice.

The things I like the pose of the lady, the positioning of the chair under the sign.

Good work.

I'm guessing it was posted, there isn't much space in Laundry mats so I doubt she could have not known it was being shot. Fantastic photo nonetheless.

Re: Bored doing laundry.

Funny Image!
Even if it is posed some.
This is a good photograph, her expression works well and sets a good mood.
You did a great job photographing this scene. There is a good sense of balance between the woman the text on the window.
Brian
Good luck with your project!

Re: Bored doing laundry.

Very well done and posed. My one critique would be how close the light is to the top of the words, but it still works! Well done and congrats on the sticky!

Re: Bored doing laundry.

Kyle, I think this is a really great image here and I love its cinematic quality. I really love how your model's face is mostly obscured... it really adds a touch of mystery to the moment. Great work!

OK, then. Now for the bad part. Your picture is positively covered with compression artifacts. To the point where it diminishes the overall effect of the image. Don't cut back on quality to save us. Move your compression quality all the way up so that we're not looking at all that digital junk. I'd be more than happy to wait an extra second for such a great shot to download and be seen artifact-free.

Thumbs up Re: Bored doing laundry.

That's a good photo simply because it tells a story...or at least it suggests a story.

I'm sorry. Am I hallucinating? Is there not compression artifacts everywhere? I wasn't making any film v. digital comments I simply said that his otherwise wonderful image was full of compression artifacts in its current state. Whether it is from a scanned image or a digital photo is irrelevant. I don't care what he shot it on, I just want to see a cleaner image.
I swear, Arc. You would stick up for Pol Pot if he shot digital.
