Battery Charger problem? Maybe

I have a Canon Powershot S60 which came with a battery charger. Okay, here's the deal... When I put a battery in to charge, normally there are lights that are a steady red with a drained battery. When the charge is done, the light is supposed to change to a solid green.

What is happening now is, after a normal charging time, instead of the light turning green, it blinks red/green/red/green continuously. It has done this with the two batteries that I have. (The past two charges.)

Does anyone know if I should buy a new charger. I haven't been photographing for long enough periods of time to tell if the battery is lasting. (Which I will try to do and check the length of time.)
The batteries and charger are only 10 months old.

I called the camera shop, and I got a generic response. I don't think he knew what he was talking about. He told me that the charge was probably not done yet. Well, to borrow a phrase from Penny, geeze Louise, I think I would know if it was done charging or not. I told him that it didn't do this before! He was no help.

It might also be the batteries as well. Depends on how many times you have charged them, they do have a life span, although 10 months seems a bit limited. What is the Batteries.

The alternating red/green/red/green blinking indicates a Wall Mine, a motion-sensitive explosive device that can be attached to almost any surface...

When you approach it, make sure you carefully wait for the GREEN...oh, wait a minute!

You're talking about photography. I was thinking about Splinter Cell...

Seriously, I doubt your new batteries are both defective. Most likely it's the charger on the fritz. If you find the batteries are holding a charge after you use the charger (even with the funky light pattern), I don't see that this is much of an issue.

If however, they are not holding a charge, or the fact that this is not how the charger is suppose to work is driving you nuts, I'd go through Canon product support on their web site. The manufacturer reps will almost always know more about their product than a camea store person...

Peter, the batteries are the one that came with the camera, says Canon on it. The other is a Lexmar. They haven't been charged nearly enough to be acting up.

He seemed to be aware of the issue. I also checked on their web site for a replacement of the same charger. Guess what? Not available. Hmmm, sounds like they had more than one person come up with this.
At least this happened before the warrantee ran out.

I'm glad you got a good and quick response from Canon.

Lara, which battery is it? Other people might have the same combination of battery/charger - I wouldn't because I have the XT, but it would be good for others to know which one so they can keep their eyes open.

Liz, the battery and charger came with the camera. The charger is a Canon CB-2LT

I would say it's definitely not the battery because one battery is a Canon and the other a Lenmar and the charger is doing the same thing with both.
