Question Can Author Properties be Edited ?

    Hi All,

I would like to know if it is possible to edit the properties of one's pictures. eg. Right click on any of your pictures. Select properties, then click the summery tab. In there you will see all the info about the pic. Is it possible to put your name in the authors section?

Yes, there are numerous programs out there that will allow you to edit the metadata that is created when you take a digital photo. You can edit a variety of infomation including author (photographer), location, copyright, keywords, and more.

Camera Bits Photo Mechanic Software is great for sorting your images, and allows you to edit you metadata as well.

Irfanview is a freeware program to view your images, and it also allows you to edit metadata, under ... Image/Image Properties/IPTC info.

    Hope that helps.

Yea thanks for the link. I did DL and install IrFanView and all the plugins and still I can't edit the "Author" field, in fact I can't find it at all.

When you click on the Summary tab, got to Simple as opposed to the Advanced and you should be able to then move the cursor with the mouse to the author field and edit accordingly. The box Apply must be used or the info is lost when exiting the properties box.

My avatar is so marked as are some of my posted files.

If you are using Irfanview follow the instructions below to edit the author field:

    1) Open a picture in the program
    2) Click on the word Image on the top menu
    3) Select the word Information
    4) It will come up with a box containing information produced by your camera when you took the shot. On the bottom there is a box entitled IPTC info click that
    5) The dialog box that appears now is where you would enter the information that you want to attach to the file. Copyright info, keywords, etc.

    Hope that helps.

Hi - I see this is an old post so I don't know if it's still being monitored, but thought I would try :-) Regarding the authoring - can this be done for batches of photos in lieu of one by one? I'm new to this forum, will edit profile later.

Why would anyone want to edit the author?

To answer your question Gail, yes it's possible. Google a product called ExifTool by Phil Harvey. It's an amazing piece of software that comes in the form of a free download.

The downside is it's also a complex piece of software. It's designed to run at the command line level (Dos for Windows users, Monitor.app on a Mac.) Windows users have a couple of options, including a third party GUI, and a drag-and-drop version.

I don't know about the software for your camera but the Fuji hyper utility software does not allow for inputing author and copyright info, these fields are ALWAYS blank.

I use ACDSee pro for this and it allows me to batch add author, copyright, keywords (great for Flickr users) location information, and a whole host of other stuff automatically when importing images off the card, as well as edit properties in the EXIF data later.
