    Urgent Help Needed

I have a feeling that my monitor has had it. It is now black only. If I switch it off and turn it on again the picture will return but only for a second and then back to blackness.
I have tried it on another machine but with the same results.
It is a cheap Dell standard job that came with the system 4 years ago.
If you feel as I do that the monitor has had it, I would really appreciate any suggestions for a replacement. Perhaps there is one better suited to viewing photographic images that would be more suitable?
I would appreciate any help and suggestions as I really need to do what needs to be done urgently.
    Very many thanks

    Tom,

I think its time for a new one if it happens on two systems. Never seen that problem before.

I agree, the monitor is dead.

I have a BENQ FP241W 24" flat screen LCD monitor that when calibrated is almost exactly a flat line, very little correction applied.

    Re: Urgent Help Needed

    Many thanks Roger and Paul.
Yes indeedy dead and almost buried now.
I would prefer a smaller screen size paul say 19-20inch.
I am not going to allow myself to spend more than £250 on this.
The high end ones are a non starter. My old cheapie has served me well for printing etc but it time to upgrade to some extent.
    Any other recommendations?

    Re: Urgent Help Needed

Well I'd go with BENQ again (and might get a second FP241W if I upgrade the computer) at any resolution.
I really like widescreen, because it gives space to put the toolbars when editing.

Just curious, did you use the same cable that came with your monitor when you tried your monitor on the other computer or did you use a different cable? The cable may be the problem, Jeff

    Re: Urgent Help Needed

True, some monitors even have the cable built in at the monitor end, with no socket.
But in this case because it works for a while, then goes black, on two computers, I think it's "dead, Jim".
If it is a LCD screen, there is a chance the the screen itself is still working but the backlighting has failed. Like a laptop it's usually expensive to fix the backlight and it makes it uneconomic to repair unless you have a spare that dies for a different cause.

I went for widescreen for the same reason - not regretted it at all.

Mine's a Dell high end came with the system.

    Re: Urgent Help Needed

Lads thanks for taking the time with advice and suggestions. After much checking and messing about online I have ordered Dell UltraSharp™ 2007WFP 20.1" Widescreen. I've had to go 50£ above budget to get one I feel is right for me.
Hopefully see ye on an outing soon.
