Question Help! Trevor/PJ no support for 1D MkII in photoshop CS

I've checked for updates to CS RAW plug-ins, but no support yet for this camera, which has been around awhile now. I just bought photoshop CS in hopes of avoiding buying Phase One C1 Pro. I do have Breezebrowser v2.1, but it would be nice not to have to run two programs just to convert and edit an image (although Breezebrowser's batch conversion is quite nice-is Phase One better at batch converting?). Do you guys know if Canon makes a plug-in for photoshop. The other option is to use Canon's software, but I've used it before and it bites big time. Any help is much appreciated.

It says right on this page that it supports 1D MKII
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html

So I'm not sure what's going on for you. I sure hope I didn't read that page wrong because if I did then I'm going to be pretty pissed at Adobe.

    Thanks for the quick response.
I think you read it wrong. There's no triangular marker beside the 1D Mk II. I'll keep using Breezebrowser for now since I already have it. My only gripe with Breezebrowser is the lack of output control in batch processing.

Why don't you download the newest version of Capture One and play with it for a month and see. Seems like a bit of copout to buy such an expensive camera and scrimp on conversion software.

    http://www.pictureflow.com/products/c1_se/index.html

Why do professional photographers use Capture One probably more than any other conversion program.

Yes they have different versions, probably the SE version would suit you best unless you want to go straight to the PRO version. I purchased the SE version and 5 upgrade pack special they offered, which gives me about 3 years of upgrades potentially, by then they will have another special for getting up to the PRO version I am sure.

Re: Help! Trevor/PJ no support for 1D MkII in photoshop CS

    Peter,

I gave Lionheart advice in another thread when he was looking for RAW software to consider using pgohotsohp's RAW if he already had it or planned on buying it. What I didn't realize is that it doesn't support the MKII.

So that's why he got Photoshop.

On another note; I'm not a fan of Capture One. It's productivity improvments aren't meaningful to me and I don't realize any of the benefits doing what I do. It's not for everyone and the price is high for the MKII as it requires PRO or SE versions ($499 or $249)

If Lionheart ever planned on getting Photoshop it made sense for him to get it for the RAW conversion as well (except we mistakingly assumed it would be supported!!! I would call Adobe and get my refund until the model is supported)

An extra 250 to 500 is a lot to spend on software that performs a single task and that the user may not require.

Generically speaking, I don't buy the argument of "since you spent so much on ABC what's another few dollars on XYZ" or "Why lesson that value of your top of the line ABC by not buying top of the line XYZ". Evey purchase a smart consumer makes is based on need, not based on what's the best.

I don't like seeing that reason thrown around to justify a purchase. In the past, I've bought things with the same line of thought and after a while learned that it was stupid. Assess the need, and go from there.

    Lionheart,

I'm sorry that I suggested Photoshop when it doesn't support the MKII. I hope things work out for you.

Re: Help! Trevor/PJ no support for 1D MkII in photoshop CS

I looked into things further and found this link:

    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/319291.html

It's telling me that I read the camera support page correctly but that maybe you don't have camera raw 2.2 or 2.3 installed.

All cameras listed on this page are supported:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html

But only the one's with the arrows next to them are supported in the shipped version of Photoshop CS. All the other ones without the arrows require you to upgrade the camera raw plugin.

The current version of the camera RAW plugin is 2.3. It looks like support for 1D MKII was added in version 2.2

Did you download ans install the 2.3 update found here?:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=2609

    Let me know the status.

Download the latest update from Adobe, and you will be able to convert RAW images for your MK2. I am able to use CS for Canon 1Dmk2 RAW files, but prefer PhaseOne.

Talking Thank you so much guys.

I just downloaded v2.3 and it worked. I initially didn't download it because the Adobe webpage didn't specifically list the Mk II as one of the new cameras supported. The acrobat file that came with the download, however, did mention the Mk II as one of the cameras supported. BTW, I did get Phase One C1 Pro anyway. I'm actually glad I did. It is much better than Breezebrowser, worth every penny I paid for it. It is really awesome software, especially the ability to output three different conversions simultaneously from the RAW files.
Again, many thanks for all your help

Re: Thank you so much guys.

Gee I am glad I mentioned it Lionheart. The one good thing I have found with Breezebrowser over Phase One, it shows the actual focus points, which Phase One C1 doesn't, which I find very useful.

And Trevor, I do read your responses, and did see you info to Lionheart regarding Adobe Raw, but I thought it was good to mention that the general accepted RAW conversion software seemed to be Capture 1.

on the adobe pg, it says "*Below are all the cameras supported in the latest Camera Raw 2.4 plug-in update*. ***Cameras noted with the red arrow were included in the **shipping version** of Photoshop CS,*** and licensed users do not need the update to access raw files from these cameras. "
i suppose it means the shipping version of photoshop was intergrated w/ those camera raw support, and this 2.4plug-in supports every camera listed there

    Hey hellinvader,

Why after 4 1/2 months are you raising such an old thread. Not trying to get your posts up are we. It surprises me, how many threads that are old are re-raised with nothing new involved in the post.
