creating image archives

hi all, i have been given the task of managing my organisations image archive. at the moment induvidual people store images locally. I am looking at saving them on a server and i am looking at a software application that can be used to index and search a potentially large number of images. also this program would need to incorporate a thumbnail viewing system and the ability to search offline images (like those held in clip art and royalty free cd's) ideally this should be able to be loaded on any machine on the network.

if you have any suggestions please let me know. at the moment i am looking at using a program called thumbs plus which whilst not letting me do everything i want seems ok although it does tend to slow down some machines a bit

I'm not recommending it but I think you should take look at IMatch from photools.com.

I use it myself. The reason I'm not recomending it is because I really don't know your requriements well enough to know if it's a good fit. It might be.
