    Yet another freakin newbie...

This was just a general snapshot taken at the Xcaret Park in Mexico. I know, the image quality it pretty bad, but I had to compress it to get it small enough to post within my 35k file limit. The actual print looks much sharper/better.

Let me know what you think...

I know... the size a little on the "big" size for most displays, but I decided anything smaller looked pretty bad, plus, I'm not exactly that great with Photoshop yet.

You said you were a newbie and not great with PS, so I took the liberty to "fix" your image according to my own taste.

Here is a short list of what I did:

    I applied unsharp mask

    added contrast

    darkened it quite a bit

    cropped the top

    and boosted the saturation

I also removed a bit of the yellow

With this reworking I think it makes a pretty good shot.

    Keep at it good buddy!

BTW what camera do you use?

    Welcome to the forum.

First and foremost you MUST resize your photo to fit on the page. We simply cannot scroll all over to see it - we cannot do it justice in critiquing.

In PS, go to Image on top bar, then "Image size". Make your longest edge around 550-650 pixels and that should do the trick. Then you can go to "Edit" for this thread and cancel this image, re-insert re-sized image.

From what I can gather, your photo is somewhat washed out and needs to be darkened or histogram-fixed. But I can't say more until I see the whole thing in it's entirety. Please.

    Thanks,
    Tuna

Here's a new one. Cropped, and all the "automatic" adjustments.

    I'm using a Nikon N80, and had a Sigma 28-80 lens mounted.

It's a very nice scene with the bench in the distance, the reflections on the water and the foliage/rocks. But everything is still looking a little washed out to me. I hope you don't mind my posting my version just to show what might be possible...but if you feel uncomfortable with my borrowing your image for this purpose, please let me know and I will immediately remove it from my post.

    Tuna,

Seems almost too dark, but I guess I'm used to seeing the raw image, since I haven't really played with photoshop much yet.

I can see that mine looks really washed out compared to yours, I'll have to play some more to get it somewhere in the middle of the two.

Take it and modify it all you want.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm pretty new at this Photoshop stuff.
