I like it Roger but it does seem a little flat. But just a little. Maybe boost some contrast and color. The birds really add to the picture. Great subject.
I am like Barney Fife, I have a gun but Andy makes me keep the bullet in my pocket..
Roger ... I'm with Greg on this .. it is a pleasing shot of a photogenic subject, but it needs a little boost. In a way, I think you are at the mercy of winter light, and a plain sky doesn't help. Even so, with a little more pop it will be a fine picture.
Agreed...the colors of the underbrush and the windmill look like one...differentiate them. Add a bit more to the left or right to take it off center a bit, but I love how much you did with the water and sky - many people horribly overcrop for my tastes.

So long as you credit me as the original photographer, go to town with my work. You can't make it any worse.
I think the lighting is wrong for this and the blank sky hurts a bit. The light seems to be coming from in front and to the side of the mill, which is making much of what we see of it and the fg dark. I'm not feeling the view of being behind the mill either. I think a different angle might be better. Perhaps shooting this mill with much of the surroundings included might be good as opposed to cropping in on it. If you can readily get back to this scene, maybe try out a few various comps with different angles and see where that goes.
This is straight out of the camera with just a levels tweak,
I have a few more which I'll include in a new thread later.
I took a few but the problem with this is that there are reed beds all around the area and the rest of the images really are of the back and reed beds included.
I have tried boosting the windmill but without much luck if anyone wants a play feel free. I could not get rid of the flatness. It was taken in the late evening. I took the camera out the following morning with just grey clouds and it washed it out so much I didn't even bother taking one picture.
Thanks to all for the guidance on this. If someone does have a go and success then let me know what you did. I can post a bigger version in the gallery if you want.
