    What's wrong with this picture?

Hi everyone - a friend sent me the link to her website to view her pictures as she bought her first digital camera. It's a Panasonic DMC-LZ5 P&S.

Most of her pictures where she focuses directly on her cats look blown right around the subject - but the rest of the image looks fine. Except for the subject, the other items in the room are sharp, writing on a box very sharp and the colors are great. Is it because the flash is too strong? If so how should she resolve it. She is brand new at digital, so the less complicated the better.

All pictures were shot inside - but it looks like there was plenty of light coming in the windows for the most part.

Liz, the images don't link right, but I copied the URL an viewed them.

They are over exposed in the highlights and the flash looks to strong. Tell her to put the flash to FILL, not AUTO and that should help.

She may want to read the manual a few more times and this link.

    Thanks Paul,

    I gave her the information........

BTW, why are the images posted showing as a red X all of a sudden. The website and prints are still there?

    Thanks

Well the metering is not set to spot it's averaging the whole frame(preflash). If they can zoom in on the subject, then the correct exposure will be calcalated by the camera. Also by zooming in they will not have to crop as much and the prints will have more detail, also the camera will more likely focus on the subject.

The images in question hope the links work now.

The links are probably working now in Lis's original post due to my links in this post. Interesting.
