    night clouds

I've always been intrigued by the clouds at night. The night before last the conditions were just right. No real subject here, just a neat idea. Wish I could have the cityscape or river, but maybe next month.

This is a really neat shot you have here Mark. I'm curious as to what camera settings you used to do this?

    Thank you Michael,
    25 sec, f8, iso 200, 12mm lens, 1/2 frame crop.
    p.s auto levels, noise reduction.
The clouds were moving pretty fast.

I really like the first version of the shot, it looks hyper-real. The only thing I'm wondering is if it might have looked better with the light source itself obscured - that way there would be nothing to compete with the building as the focal point. The scudding clouds add a great sense of movement, and enhance the dreamlike feel. Nice work

    Re: night clouds

Mark. . .I looked at the first shot and thought it had potential but there were things like too much darkforeground and the green light taking away from it. But upon seeing the second shot, I like that one much better. To make it just right, imo, I would crop the second shot from the left into the middle of the tree on the left to make it a vertical comp, and than take just a sliver off the bottom and it really feels balanced and right. And a wide dodge brush to go around the entire image but avoid the bright spot in the middle would finish it off. Good scene

    Hey Mark,
Those are some very nice captures. I really like the first becuase I like the motion of the clouds. For me, the street light is just fine. The star like flare doesn't not show motion, and I think this is a nice contrast to what is going on overhead.
    Thumbs up!

Mark, these are both very striking images although I do prefer the 2nd one. I tried cropping the bottom (removing that little house) and found it to be alot stronger. Either way love that dreamy effect. The clouds do look pretty dynamic.

    Re: night clouds

Thanks Nina, The clouds were really the only thing I was concerned with when i took these pics, the rest was just there. though i did try to at least level the horizon.
I was pleased with the results, But I would have liked to have been shooting an intersting subject. Ah well, maybe next time!
    Thank you for posting!

    Re: night clouds

    Hi Mark,
I really like the first shot. The idea is innovative. A lot of contrast elements - blurred clouds/ sharp foreground, different lighting, brigtness/darkness ....
    Well done.
