Taken during dress rehearsals at a performance of "Son Corazon" by my daughter's dance company, The Latin Ballet of Virginia. As usual, all comments/critique greatly appreciated.

Tuna, you are just blowing me away with your stuff!!!! All I can say when I open your work is WOW!

Theatre shots are sooo hard to get because of the lighting, but turn out so fantastic when you get them right. This shot is amazing!

Absolutely tremendous. If this shot is not the "Featured Photo" for the upcoming week, there is a huge problem! This is honestly one of the best images I have seen on this board in the short time I have been here. I am at a loss to find anything wrong with it.

The color's are almost surreal. This photgraph looks more like a painting. The cropping is perfect. The cold blue-ish color of the dress contrasts perfectly with the warm yellow and browns in the backdrop. You have a true piece of art here.

Is the backdrop actually that "ruffled" or does it appear that way because of the lighting? I'm just curious. It adds wonderful depth to the image.

Great job. This is the Featured Photo in the waiting.

The lighting people had done some magic to make the backdrop appear this way. I was happy to have been able to capture it on film.

Tuna, This is a very good shot for the difficult lighting conditions that theatre presents. It's much better than any I managed in the one attempt I made. The backdrop is interesting, was it moving kinda like smoke?

Todd, it would not be a problem of any size.
The featured photo is not a weekly award for best photo and it is not chosen on any schedule as far as I know. It is the privelige of our moderator (his excellency mtbbrian ) to chose feature photos on whatever criteria he wishes and to me seems to be more often an example of what the Critique Forum can be as a learning tool for the members. I don't mean to imply that the photos chosen are in any way inferior. I think we need to appreciate the fine job that Brian's been doing and not add to it with pressuring him about what he choses for featured photos.

What was the surface of the stage made of? It reminds me of ripples on a lake. This is the type of picture I usually see advertising a performance. You should ask the dance company if they'd like to buy it!

I'm sure the surface of the stage is just a flat solid stage, and the lighting effects are done with gobo's, which are almost like "stencils" that you put over lighting instruments to get specifically shaped shadows.

I don't know but I'll guess that the backdrop is a screen that's having a projection backlighting it.

This was shot on NPZ800 film and the grain was enhanced in PS. As for the backdrop, Kelly is correct. The lighting folks did the magic required to make a flat backdrop look this way. I was happy to be able to capture it on film.

This is a great looking image. Very grainy, but still fine nonetheless. Was this taken with a very high iso? It almost does not look like a photo, but very good indeed.

It's a delightful shot - the colour contrast gives tangible depth to a well composed image. Good theatre pics are incredibly hard to achieve even with the fastest glass.

I am intrigued to see what the original 800ASA image looks like by way of comparison. The grainy feels suits the subject matter well - but nonetheless, I'd still like to see the non-PSed version.
