Quebec City

Hello All,
I was in Quebec City over last weekend, and I had the chance to visit a couple of water falls near the City. The city pictures themselves, I didn't like any of them, except for 2 kind of OKAy ones, I will share them in a different thread. Please let me know what you think of these. They were taken with either a tiny Canon P&S, or my manual film camera, with an old 35mm prime.

These are pretty good. The last one is my favorite. I like how you're experimenting with the angle of the bridge. Perhaps if you angled the shot the other way, the angle you have on it now...just doesn't work for me, but what do I know. The tree is kind of distracting in the second one, but I doubt there was a whole lot of room to get a good shot ;) There's a major difference in the color of the rocks and well everything between the last two shots, but they're at the same place. Perhaps if you took one with the p&s the white balance was off or soemthing. I'm a relative newbie, so I wouldn't know the exact reason. Good job on the shots.

Tubaman, thank you for your kind words, really appreciate it. The last picture was taken with the P&S digital, on Auto white balance. I have to admit, the digital one looks like the real colours. The sun was starting to set, and it got the film picutre to look very warm.

Which of the first 2 work for your better. The vertical, or horizontal?

Very good question...I like the hrizontal, but that tree's killin me ;) I'd have to say the vertical, but only because the tree. With the horizontal you have the full affect of the waterfall in all it's glory. The vertical cuts off the waterfall, but it has this contrast between land and water that's pretty interesting. I'd have to say vertical, but that's just my opinion. I still like them both though.

Well, the first one doesn't seem to have any central image to draw the eyes too. My eyes can seem to tell what to look at. The little waterfall to the side or the bright big one to the right. The second is better but still I don't quite know where to look.

The third just doesn't work to me. I'm not big on the angled pictures though, so ignore my opinion .

I really like last one. The lines going through the picture, the angled lines the rock creates, horizontal line of the bridge, and the tree lines on the side of the river creating a good sense of perspective... It all works really well for me.

I agree with Tubaman2010 the last one by far the best shot. Of the first two, if had to pick one would say the vertical, although I thin k the horizontal would have been the choice if not for that confounded tree Third shot with the angle not working for me.
I think the difference between the digital and the film camera here is the digital is going directly to your puter whereas the film image is losing some quality from the lab scan onto the cd

See, this is exactly the kind of errors you make when you are a newbie. The "book" said add foreground interest, so, I added this giant tree to "frame" my subject. Yup, overkill... valid newbie mistake, you guys need to give me that.
