    Which Tulip?

I'd like to know which of these shots you prefer and why if you care to tell me.
The first two are different crops of the same frame and the third is a different shot with less dof.

I deffinitely think the horizontally cropped image is the best. Nice shot by the way.

    Re: Which Tulip?

Chunk, my vote went to the first photo. I like the tighter crop compaired to number 2, and I like the position of the tulip better than three.

Have you tried a square crop? This image would seem to lend itself to that.

I haven't voted yet, because I like the last one but only because of its placement in the frame. I'd like a square crop better, I think.

Thanks Kelly for taking the time to comment. Here's a square crop. I agree that this shot looks pretty good that way.
I have been playing with cropping finished shots to more standard dimensions lately thinking about selling prints. I am thinking that people might be more ready to buy photos for which they can easily find ready made mats and frames. This abandonment of artistic value for crass commercialism is probably prompted by my impending retirement and its attending drop in income. I'll also be posting stuff on a smugmug account that I'm setting up and figure that those are best posted at standard configurations.

That square crop looks great, but I still voted for the first one. Almost looks like your avatar Nice shooting and great colors,

I'm going with the square crop. It just grabed me more as soon as I saw it. I like the way it eliminated some of the lighter brown in the background and keep the eye on the the beautiful subject.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Re: Which Tulip?

    Hi Chunk,

Square crop for me too. That is a nice capture.... kind of reminds me of your aviatar you know [grin]. Curious though... did you bump up the saturation? If so, it looks a little high (on my monitor). Also, I'd go for more DOF to get the detail of the inside.

    Cheers,
    Tim

    Re: Which Tulip?

Thanks to all of you who have responded.

Tim, I hadn't bumped the saturation, just levels and curves on my laptop monitor. I was startled at the saturation on a print I had done and again when I looked at it on a crt I picked up. I'm reducing the saturation for a reprint.
