The light was working against you again on this shot (more so than the pier shot). Also, there is so little "meat" to the tree that it can't really hold the composition; the empty space of the photo sort of overwhelms the tree.
If you're going for a misty look, I might suggest watching your subject for a few minutes and see how the light changes as the sun has more / fewer clouds to penetrate. Shoot when the scene is a bit brighter and get closer / zoom in more.
PS - you didn't try to photoshop that dark line out from behind the tree, did you?
