Second one is a look downstream with a not so bad reflection.

    Re: Total reflection.

Nice shots, and some beautiful colors and concepts coming through here. With the first one, you need something to indicate land, whether it be horizon or somethign on top of the water. I think it would help in that effect. Your second one I love the colors and the composition is wonderful, yet the tree branches in the top right take away from the show. Great shots just a few nitpicks,

    Well done,

    Jared

    Good attempts.

On the first one perhaps a ripple in the water would have given us the story behind the photo showing it to be a reflection. But excellent colours but the photo looks a tad bright.

The second photo is very good and I disagree with Jared on the branches I think they seem to frame the shot for you and complement the grassy bank on the bottom.

    Re: Total reflection.

I like them both just the way they are. It took me a minute to figure out what was going on witht the first one, but it all fell into place for me, and I wouldn't change a think. At first I thought it was an out of focus landscape shot, but once I realized it was water, it all made sense and I like it. One of those images that makes you think.

I love the comp and the colors of your second photo. The bit of grass in the bottom right is great, and I don't mind the branches in the top right one bit. It does look just a tad bit flat tho. You could fix that but it's not nesessary. Very nice work.

The second photo is my choice between the two. The s-curve created by the combination of the river channel trees, grass, and branches makes for the picture look lazy(in a good way) and one's eye just sort of wanders through the scene. The elements combine well.

The sky is well reflected in the water, just would like to see the sky itself have more contrast. This looks like one of those images where some selective adjustment or a graduated neutral density filter(if you were shooting film maybe) to bring up the clouds in the sky would have made a real winner.

The brown tree is interesting in the first photo. Other than that it needs something to tell us what it is. The little ripples around the edge of some of the trees almost make one wonder what happened if it wasn't noted it was a reflected shot.

Reflection photos provide quite a range of possibilities and are fun. Look forward to seeing more if you care to share!

Jared Roger Mjs1973 Drg Thanks all for taking the time to post on how you feel about these 2 photos your critique gives me good insight on what i should be trying to acheive.
I should have numerous occasions to try and get better at capturing reflections of the river ,its only about 100 feet behind my house and believe it or not it was the first time i ever took a photo there hehe. Autumn should be a very good time the mountain on the other side of the river is usualy very colorfull

    Re: Total reflection.

So here are your reflection photos! Much better . The second is the best. The first is surreal in some ways. The trees don't look like they are a reflection, but the ripples tell you they are. Interesting. The second is a bit of a classic cliche, but a pretty good imitation. Don't take this badly though. One way of improving is to copy classic works of art until you are proficient at that, and then branch out. One thing though, the sky. The sky in the reflection is nice, but the one above is yellow, not the deep blue of the reflection. I don't know whether this is an error of the film(? or digital sensor? or does it matter? ) or what. Hmmmmmm. Good photo though.

    Re: Total reflection.

The mods in the last posting bring this photo home to me. I like the concept and the reflection series, I've been doing some but from building windows not water. I prefer the shots where it is an obvious reflection as it look just like a picture of trees when you exhibit as in the first shot.

The colors are much better on this one. Still a tad yellow, but bearable. The green in the trees also seems to be coming out very well. The curve of the trees is very nice now. A very good composition.
