I think the crop is a little too severe placing the point of attention right at the edge. If you are aiming for that kind of tension its OK. I like a crop about halfway between the waterline and the top of the original. While I like the reflection, I don't think that most people will dwell on that as there are too many things (sharpness, contrast, brightness - probably more) that draw the eye to the rocks and waterline.

Beatiful photo however you end up with it.

I prefer the original, uncropped version. Nice strong colours, although the white rocks are a bit too white.

As Chunk said, nice photo anyway.

...for the comments. Yeah, the more I look at the cropped version the more I see how the top edge becomes the focus, not the blurred colors as I'd thought. The rocks are quite bright, aren't they? I may try and correct that in ps....Thanks for commenting!

I like the original. Maybe you should take some spray paint to the rocks. (Don't worry, it comes off).

I like the balanced shot better. Maybe a little wider angle to get more in would make it even better?

Wow, I like the original a lot. The vibrant colors and the wonderful blurred reflection really make it, imho. The crop isn't bad, but I don't think it can compete with the full frame version.

That's a beauty! Maybe a longer exposure would have defined better the shape of the trees in the reflection...

Nicely done...the original shot is by far more interesting and a better composition.
I really do like the reflection, its just cropped a bit too much for my taste. If I was playing around with the shot, I may crop the just reflection and flip it around. and behold, a water color painting ;)

davef... Now that's one heck of a shot you took. Those colors just pop out at you. I agree that the original is way better. Your first pic is nice but too drastic and after seeing the real thing, it doesnt even compare. Keep it like you shot it is my advice. It's just wonderful like it is.Thanks for sharing it.

can you tell me what aperture, exposure you used? Did you do any postprocessing?

I'm not really the guy who likes formal balance all that much
I wouldnt crop so that trees take half, water takes half.
Try different things and compare. Make some 60-40, 70-30, etc
